History

The company was founded in 2012 by Chris Hull and Pete Helfers, two middle school social studies teachers. [1] The platform was developed as a classroom management system integrating everything necessary to run a classroom. [2] After receiving $2 million in funding from Andy Bluhm, Otus was officially launched in August 2014. [3]

Otus provides attendance tracking, a digital bookshelf for uploading files, in-app annotations, assignments, and other educational materials. [4] The platform integrates third-party apps, such as Khan Academy and PARCC. [2]

Otus was nominated as a finalist of two 2016 Codie awards in the "Best Classroom Management System" and "Best K-12 Course or Learning Management Solution" categories. [5] Otus was a finalist in EdTech Digest's 2016 "District Data Solution" and "Learning Management System" categories. [6] Otus co-founder Chris Hull was also announced as one of the National School Boards Association's "20 to Watch Educators for 2016". [7]
