Overaa Construction is an American family-owned construction company based in Richmond, California, which provides general contracting and design/build services in Northern California. [2] [3] It is one of the largest contractors in California [4] [5] and since 1993, has been listed among ENR's top 400 contractors in the US. [6]

Overaa Construction has a self-performing concrete capability. The company crews perform about 600,000 man-hours on average each year, three fourths of which are concrete work. [3]

History

The company was established in 1907 by a Norwegian immigrant and carpenter Carl E. Overaa, who committed himself to rebuilding the Bay Area after the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. [2] [7]

Jerry (Gerald) Overaa, Carl Overaa's grandson, joined the firm in 1966. As of 2014, he works in the company as its chief executive officer. [1]

After the Great Recession the company worked on a number of projects supported by funds of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, including two projects for the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. [8] [9] In 2010, Overaa Construction logged the highest amount of man-hours among general contractors in Northern California. [9]

In March 2011, Christopher Manning, who worked at the company for 25 years, was appointed president after Peter Kappelhoff retired. [2]

The San Francisco Federal Building is an 18-story, 234 ft-tall (71.3 m) building at 90 7th Street on the corner of Mission and 7th streets in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The federal building was designed by the Morphosis architectural firm, as a supplement to the Phillip Burton Federal Building several blocks away. Thom Mayne of Morphosis designed the building using a juxtaposition of gray concrete walls, perforated metal panels, and custom, faceted wood ceilings. The building was expected to be completed in 2005, but construction issues and delays pushed the project completion to 2007.

Downtown Richmond is the old center of Richmond, California. The area is roughly bordered by 6th street to the west, 23rd Street to the east, Barrett Avenue to the north, and Macdonald Avenue to the south. The area once featured major department stores and other chains such as J.C. Penney, Macy's, S. H. Kress & Co., and Sears before Hilltop Mall was built in the 1970s.The area is currently undergoing a revitalization effort by the city, which has included the Richmond Shopping Center anchored by a supermarket. The Richmond Transit Village—coined Metro Walk by the developers, the Olson Company—has also been built, along with remodeling of the Richmond BART and Amtrak station and a bus transit center served by AC Transit and Golden Gate Transit. A Kaiser Permanente hospital and a Social Security Administration processing center provide for a majority of the jobs in the area.

Bruce D. Judd, FAIA, is a historic preservation architect based in Seaside, Florida, and San Francisco, California. He is a principal in the Bruce Judd Consulting Group in Seaside and a Consulting Founding Principal at the Architectural Resources Group in San Francisco. His projects have included surveying the historic African American community of Mound Bayou, Mississippi resulting in its being listed in the National Register of Historic Places. He has also consulted on the restoration of the Alamo Mission in San Antonio, Texas. Judd has directed more than 300 planning, rehabilitation, and expansion projects for architecturally significant buildings throughout the west and is a nationally recognized expert in his field. He has led rehabilitation and new construction projects for library, cultural, and performing arts facilities. He has also directed various high-profile projects including: master plan and restoration of the Hotel Del Coronado; repair and restoration of the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, which received a National AIA Honor Award; master planning and seismic retrofit of the block-square Beaux-Arts style Pasadena City Hall which received LEED Gold certification; and rehabilitation of the historic Linde Robinson Laboratory for the Center for Global Environmental Ecology at Caltech in Pasadena, the first laboratory in a historic building to receive a LEED Platinum certification. Beverly Willis is an American architect who played a major role in the development of many architectural concepts and practices that influenced the design of American cities and architecture. Willis' achievements in the development of new technologies in architecture, urban planning, public policy and her leadership activities on behalf of architects are well known. Her best-known built-work is the San Francisco Ballet Building in San Francisco, California. She is the co-founder of the National Building Museum, in Washington, D.C., and founder of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation, a non-profit organization working to change the culture for women in the building industry through research and education.

Architectural Glass & Aluminum provides engineering, design, fabrication, installation, and assembly services for custom glazing systems, such as Curtain Wall, Storefront, Punched Openings, and Window Wall. The firm works with architects and General Contractors to meet desired aesthetics, and performance criteria, while providing details that interface with other exterior enclosure substrates.
