P. Saravanan is an Indian politician and an actor. He was a former Member of Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu from Thirupparankundram Constituency. [1] He is currently serving as the Joint Secretary of AIADMK State Medical Wing. [2]
Saravanan started his political career as the Madurai Rural Unit Secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and later moved to the DMK because he was denied the ticket to contest the polls by MDMK. [3] Saravanan was also a member of the BJP earlier during 2015. [4]
He was then made as the Deputy Leader of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party's Doctor wing. During the by- elections held for Tamil Nadu Legislative assembly on 19 May,he defeated his rival Muniyandi of the AIADMK with a difference of 2936 votes. [5]
Later he joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 14 March 2021,upset as the DMK did not give him a seat to contest. [6] [5] Within hours of joining the BJP,Saravanan was allotted the Madurai North constituency. [7] Many cadres of BJP protested stating that the constituency should not be allotted to him and many cadres locked the BJP office at K Pudur as protest. [3] Madurai rural district BJP secretary A Nagarajan said in protest that “It is a very wrong move by party leadership to give ticket to a renowned party defector”. [5] He was made as BJP's Madurai district president. [8]
Saravanan visited minister Palanivel Thiagarajan residence on midnight of August 13,2022 to apologise after BJP members hurled a slipper at the Minister’s car. He told reporters on midnight that he was going to get out of BJP as he did not like BJP's “politics of hatred and religion” [9] [10] and claimed that the BJP was working against the minority people. [11] [12] BJP state president Kuppusamy Annamalai expelled Saravanan for taking an anti-party stance. [13]
The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is a political party active in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry. It was established by Vaiko in 1994 after he left the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Narayanan Vijayaraj Alagarswami,better known by his stage name Vijayakanth,is an Indian politician and former actor who has worked predominantly in Tamil cinema. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Before entering politics Vijayakanth was a successful actor,producer and director. Vijayakanth is also the current DMDK chairman of Tamil Nadu legislative assembly. He is the founder and president,general secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Political party and served as a Member of Legislative Assembly twice representing the constituency of Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam respectively.
The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a Dravidian party founded by the former leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Vijayakant (Captain) at Madurai on 14 September 2005. The DMDK is led by its founder as president and general secretary of the party. The headquarters of the party is located at Jawaharlal Nehru Salai,Koyambedu,Chennai.
The thirteenth legislative assembly election,of Tamil Nadu was held on 8 May 2006. It was held for all 234 constituencies to elect the government in the state for the following five years. The votes were counted three days later on 11 May 2006 and all the results were out by the end of the day. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led (DMK) front won the elections,with the DMK emerging as the single-largest party with 96 seats,and its leader,M Karunanidhi was sworn in as Chief Minister for a fifth and final term. This election marked the first time the state saw a hung assembly with no party gaining a majority of its own. As a result,DMK formed a minority government with its allies,which is the first in the state since the 1952 election. 13th Assembly was instituted due to this election.

Dravidian parties include an array of regional political parties in the state of Tamil Nadu,India,which trace their origins and ideologies either directly or indirectly to the Justice Party and the Dravidian movement of C. Natesanar and Periyar E. V. Ramasamy. The Dravidian movement was based on the linguistic divide in India,where most of the Northern Indian,Eastern Indian and Western Indian languages are classified as Indo-Aryan,whereas the South Indian languages are classified as Dravidian. Dravidian politics has developed by associating itself to the Dravidian community. The original goal of Dravidian politics was to achieve social equality,but it later championed the cause of ending the domination of North India over the politics and economy of the South Indian province known as Madras Presidency.
The twelfth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 10 May 2001. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led front won the elections and its general secretary,J. Jayalalithaa was sworn in as Chief Minister,even though she could not legally run as MLA in this election. She was unanimously nominated as Chief Minister by her party and was ready to serve her second term. But due to criminal and corruption charges from her first term,on 21 September 2001,a five-judge constitutional bench of the Supreme Court of India ruled in a unanimous verdict that "a person who is convicted for a criminal offense and sentenced to imprisonment for not less than two years cannot be appointed the Chief Minister of a State under Article 164 (1) read with (4) and cannot continue to function as such". Thereby,the bench decided that "in the appointment of Dr. J. Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister there has been a clear infringement of a Constitutional provision and that a writ of quo warranto must issue". In effect,her appointment as Chief Minister was declared null and invalid with retrospective effect. Therefore,technically,she was not the Chief Minister in the period between 14 May 2001 and 21 September 2001. After her resignation on 21 September 2001,she put in O. Panneerselvam,as the official 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,until she could clear up the charges from her first term,so she can take up the mantle of Chief Minister officially,on 2 March 2002.
The eleventh legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 2 May 1996. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led front won the election and its leader M. Karunanidhi,became the chief minister. This was his fourth term in office. S. Balakrishnan,also known as So. Balakrishnan,of Tamil Maanila Congress,became the Leader of the Opposition. The incumbent All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government was defeated in a landslide with its general secretary and outgoing chief minister J. Jayalalithaa losing the election from the Bargur constituency. She became the first Incumbent Chief Minister since M. Bakthavatsalam in 1967 to lose her own constituency.

Radhakrishnan is an Indian politician,Minister of Tamil Nadu and Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elected from Tiruchendur constituency as AIADMK candidate in 2001,2006 and as DMK candidate in 2009(Bye-election),2011,2016 and 2021. He was also former Minister for Animal Husbandry and Minister for Housing &Urban Development in the 2001 AIADMK government.
By-elections to nine state assembly constituencies were held in Tamil Nadu,in four separate phases. Election for Thirumangalam was held on 9 January and for Bargur,Thondamuthur,Ilayankudi,Cumbum,and Srivaikuntam constituencies on 18 August. Also,election took place for Vandavasi and Tiruchendur constituency on 19 December 2009 and finally for Pennagaram constituency on 27 March 2010. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) defeated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in Thirumangalam in the first phase and kept the winning momentum in the following general election.
A. Asokan,also called Nagai Asokan,is an Indian Tamil politician and was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate from Tiruvarur constituency in the 1996 and 2001 elections. He was appointed as DMK Youth wing Deputy Secretary and Member of Executive committee Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in 2000.
R. S. Raja Kannappan,formerly known as S. Kannappan,is an Indian politician and Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and the Khadii and Village Industries currently and also former Minister of Transport,Nationalised Transport,Motor Vehicles Act in the period 2021- March 2022 and also former Minister of Public Works,Highways and Electricity during 1991–1996. He joined the party DMK in Feb. 2020.
The Fourteenth Legislative Assembly Election was held on 13 April 2011 to elect members from 234 constituencies in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Results were released on 13 May 2011. Two major parties Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) faced the election as coalitions of multiple political parties:DMK front consisted of 8 parties and the AIADMK of 11 parties. Vijayakanth's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK),which had contested the previous elections independently,allied with the AIADMK coalition. Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam boycotted the election following a disagreement with Jayalalithaa over seat-sharing. The outgoing Karunanidhi government was noted for the construction of new assembly building in Chennai,execution of various developmental projects,and implementation of programmes including free health care for the poor and issuance of a range of freebies such as color television to all. However,these were heavily overshadowed by other major issues such as incessant power cuts in households and industries,excessive sand mining,increasing prices of essential items,2G spectrum case and undue influence of Karunanidhi's extended family in various aspects of Tamil politics and business and even media.
V. Senthil Balaji is an Indian politician who served as the Electricity Minister for the state of Tamil Nadu.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the election,ending the decade-long reign of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The DMK's leader M. K. Stalin became the eighth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,and the 12th Chief Minister since the 1956 reorganization. He replaced Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK.
2022 Tamil Nadu urban local body elections,to the Local civic bodies in Tamil Nadu were held in urban areas in the month of February 2022. The Greater Chennai Corporation,alongside 20 other municipal corporations of Tamil Nadu,went to polling on 19 February 2022 to elect councillors to represents the wards in the respective cities;the elected councillors will choose a mayor from amongst themselves.
