Dr. P.V. Guharaj (1925 - June 12, 2016) was one of the first police surgeons in Kerala. He was director and professor of forensic medicine at Kozhikode Medical College. He has authored a book titled Forensic Medicine which is an authentic reference text in India. [1]

Professional life

Because of the statement he made in the Rajan Murder Case that police torture was the cause of death, Kerala policemen allegedly attacked his house. He appeared before the Kerala High Court and Coimbatore court to give evidence in this case. [2]

The department of Forensic Medicine was started in Kozhikode Medical College during his stint. [1] He worked as a police surgeon for the government of Kerala for 25 years. After retiring from government service, he worked in Nigeria for the Governor of Gongola for three months [2]

The book he authored is a major reference book for police surgeons and barristers. [2]

Family

Aysha Guharaj, who was principal of Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha Medical Colleges and Director of Medical Education, was his wife. [2]

Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram

The Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram is in Thiruvananthapuram, India. Founded in 1951, it was dedicated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and is Kerala's oldest medical college. The college was known in early records as Medical College, since it was the only medical institute in the state at its inception.

A prolific writer, Warrier's works covered the genres of poetry, drama, travelogue, translation, children's literature and science. He was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry. Sister Abhaya murder case

Sister Abhaya, a Catholic sister, was found dead in a water well in St Pius X Convent in Kottayam on 27 March 1992. Investigation into this death is by far the longest running murder investigation in the State of Kerala.

He was Professor of Forensic Medicine in the University of London at Guy's Hospital, Lecturer in Forensic Medicine at the University of Oxford and a founding member and President of the Association of Forensic Medicine. Professor Simpson became renowned for his post-mortems on high-profile murder cases, including the 1949 Acid Bath Murders committed by John George Haigh and the murder of gangster George Cornell, who was shot dead by Ronnie Kray in 1966.

He is a former director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi and an authority on forensic medicine. Dogra been member of the Medical Council of India from December 2013 till its dissolution in September 2018. Dogra have been President of National Medicos Organisation Delhi State from 2012 to 2017. Dogra was member of TEQ-Equivalence Committee and Administration and Grievance committee of Medical Council of India. He is member of Advisory committee on MOOC's program of University Grants Commission of India New Delhi. Presently he is emeritus professor of forensic medicine and forensic sciences, professor of Andragogy and educational philosophy and Advidsor, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at SGT University Gurgaon.

2018 Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala

The 2018 Kerala Nipah virus outbreak was an outbreak of the Nipah virus in India's southern state Kerala, traced to the fruit bats in the area. The outbreak was localized in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts of Kerala and claimed 17 lives, The outbreak was contained and declared over on 10 June 2018. This was the third Nipah Virus outbreak in India, the earlier being in 2001 and 2007, both in the eastern state West Bengal.
