Paamiut Municipality was a municipality in Greenland until 31 December 2008. Its area was mostly incorporated into the new Sermersooq municipality, while a part of the ice sheet including a few nunataks was incorporated into the new Kujalleq municipality. The central town was Paamiut (Greenlandic pronunciation: [paːmiut] ). Other settlements within its borders were Arsuk and Neria.

Ammassalik was one of two municipalities in Tunu, the former county of East Greenland − the other one being Illoqqortoormiut. It was located in southeastern Greenland, and with an area of 232,100 km2, most of it on the ice sheet, it was the largest municipality of East Greenland. It is now mostly part of the new Sermersooq municipality, except for the uninhabited area from Timmiarmiut southwards, which is part of the new Kujalleq municipality. The town is the basic unit of local government and local division of state authority in the six New England states. Most other U.S. states lack a direct counterpart to the New England town. New England towns overlay the entire area of a state, similar to civil townships in other states where they exist, but they are fully functioning municipal corporations, possessing powers similar to cities and counties in other states. New Jersey's system of equally powerful townships, boroughs, towns, and cities is the system which is most similar to that of New England. Paamiut, formerly Frederikshåb, is a town in southwestern Greenland in the Sermersooq municipality.
Greenland is divided into five municipalities – Avannaata, Kujalleq, Qeqertalik, Qeqqata, and Sermersooq – as well as the large Northeast Greenland National Park which is unincorporated. The Pituffik Space Base is administered by the United States Space Force and operates as an unincorporated enclave surrounded by territory of Avannaata.

Arsuk is a village in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. It had 73 inhabitants in 2020. The name of the settlement means the beloved place in the Greenlandic language. The village is served by the communal all-purpose Pilersuisoq store.
Qeqertarsuatsiaat, formerly Fiskenæsset or Fiskernæs, is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland, located on an island off the shores of Labrador Sea. Its population was 169 in 2020.

Paamiut Airport is an airport located 1 NM northeast of Paamiut, a town in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. It was built in 2007, replacing the old heliport. It is the only airport between Nuuk and Narsarsuaq capable of serving STOL aircraft of Air Greenland.
Alanngorsuaq Fjord, also known as Coppermine Bay, is a fjord in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland. At the mouth of the fjord the coastline of southwestern Greenland turns to the east towards Qaqortoq.
Frederikshaab Glacier is a glacier on the southwest coast of Greenland in the Sermersooq municipality. It flows from Greenland's ice sheet and at its mouth melts into various ponds and channels that empty into Davis Strait. The nearest major town is Paamiut, roughly 110 km (68 mi) to the south, although some smaller settlements are closer.
Kim Kielsen is a Greenlandic politician, who served as leader of the Siumut party and sixth prime minister of Greenland between 2014 and 2021.
