Career

2023-2024: ATP and Masters debuts & first wins, top 150

Llamas Ruiz made his ATP main draw debut in 2023 Lyon after qualifying for the main draw. He won his first ATP match over Max Purcell. [2] He lost to top seed Félix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets in the second round. [3] He won his first Challenger title at the 2023 Open Castilla y León.

In 2024, he qualified in Montpellier and recorded his second ATP win and first on hardcourt over Richard Gasquet. [4] He lost to top seed Holger Rune in the second round. [5]

He also qualified for the 2024 Estoril Open and defeated eight seed Dominik Koepfer and lucky loser David Jordà Sanchis to reach his first ATP quarterfinal in his career. In the quarterfinal he lost to eventual champion and second seed Hubert Hurkacz.

He entered the qualifying competition at the 2024 Mutua Madrid Open as an alternate and qualified for his first Masters 1000 main draw with wins over Quentin Halys and second seed Federico Coria.

Félix Auger-Aliassime defeated Holger Rune in the final, 6–3, 7–5 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Swiss Indoors. It was his third title in as many weeks and fourth career ATP Tour singles title overall.

Holger Rune defeated the defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final, 3–6, 6–3, 7–5 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Paris Masters. It was his first Masters 1000 title, and he saved three match points en route, in the first round against Stan Wawrinka. Rune made his top-10 debut in the ATP rankings with the win, and he defeated five top-10 players en route to the title. This was Rune's fourth final in a row, and his third title. He became the second teenager to win a Masters 1000 title in the 2022 season, after Carlos Alcaraz at Miami and Madrid. Rune was the first Scandinavian to win a Masters 1000 title since Robin Söderling at the 2010 Paris Masters. It was Djokovic's first loss in an Masters 1000 final after winning the first set, having previously been 30–0.

Daniil Medvedev defeated Holger Rune in the final, 7–5, 7–5 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2023 Italian Open. It was his fifth title of 2023, sixth career Masters 1000 title, and first ATP Tour title on clay. Before 2023, Medvedev had never won a match at the Italian Open in three previous appearances.

Arthur Fils defeated Francisco Cerúndolo in the final, 6–3, 7–5 to win the singles tennis title at the 2023 ATP Lyon Open. It was his first ATP Tour title.

Alexander Bublik defeated Borna Ćorić in the final, 5–7, 6–2, 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2024 Open Sud de France. He saved three match points en route to his fourth career ATP Tour singles title. Bublik became the first player to win an ATP Tour title after losing the first set in each of his matches.

Ugo Humbert defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the final, 6–4, 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2024 Open 13 Provence. It was his fifth ATP Tour singles title.

Jan-Lennard Struff defeated Taylor Fritz in the final, 7–5, 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2024 Bavarian International Tennis Championships. It was Struff's first career ATP Tour singles title, and he did not drop a set en route. Aged 33 years and 11 months old, Struff became the oldest first-time ATP Tour singles champion since Paolo Lorenzi at the 2016 Austrian Open, as well as becoming the third-oldest first-time ATP Tour champion since its establishment in 1990.

Andrey Rublev defeated Félix Auger-Aliassime in the final, 4–6, 7–5, 7–5 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2024 Madrid Open. It was his second Masters 1000 and 16th career ATP Tour singles title. Auger-Aliassime was the first Canadian singles finalist since the tournament's inception in 2002 and the first to reach a Masters 1000 final on clay.
