The Pakistan national Football team represents Pakistan association football in FIFA-authorised events and is controlled by the Pakistan Football Federation, the governing body for football in Pakistan. Pakistan's home ground is Punjab Stadium, Lahore. Pakistan became a member of FIFA in 1948 joining the Asian Football Confederation. Pakistan's national team debuted in 1950.
The 8th Asian Games were held from December 9 to 20, 1978, in Bangkok, Thailand. Originally, the host city was Singapore but Singapore dropped its plan to host the Games due to financial problems. Then Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan was decided to host the 8th Games. But Islamabad also dropped its plan to host the Asian Games due to conflicts with Bangladesh and India.
The 9th Asian Games were held from November 19, 1982 to December 4, 1982, in Delhi, India. 74 Asian and Asian Games records were broken at the event. This was also the first Asiad to be held under the aegis of the Olympic Council of Asia. Delhi joined Bangkok as the only cities to host multiple editions of the Asian Games up to this point.
Sport in Pakistan is a significant part of Pakistan culture. Cricket is the most popular sport in Pakistan, while field hockey, polo, and squash are also popular. Traditional sports like kabaddi and other well-known games are also played. The Pakistan Sports Board was created in 1962 by the Ministry of Education as a corporate body for the purposes of promoting and developing uniform standards of competition in sports in Pakistan comparable to the standards prevailing internationally, and regulating and controlling sports in Pakistan on a national basis. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, now has control over the Pakistan Sports Board. The PSB controls all 39 sporting federations. The Pakistan Sports Board is supported by the Pakistan Sports Trust, which assists hard up players and associations so they can continue participating in sports.
The Pakistan national field hockey team is administered by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the governing body for hockey in Pakistan. They have been a member of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) since 1948 and founding member of the Asian Hockey Federation (ASHF) which formed in 1958. Pakistan is the most successful national field hockey team in the Hockey World Cup with four championships: 1971, 1978, 1982 and 1994. Pakistan also has the best overall performance in World Cup history in both proportional and absolute terms with 53 victories in 84 matches played, seven time draws, six appearances in the finals and only 24 losses. Pakistan national team has played in all FIH World Cup editions with only one absence in 2014. The green shirts is also one of the most successful national teams in the Asian Games with eight gold medals: 1958, 1962, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1990 and 2010, the highest number of times a country has come first, and the only Asian team to have won the prestigious Champions Trophy with three championships: 1978, 1980 and 1994. Pakistan have won a total of 29 official international titles to professional and grassroots level selections, with three gold medals in the Olympic Games field hockey tournaments in Rome 1960, Mexico City 1968 and Los Angeles 1984.
The Pakistan women's national cricket team represents Pakistan in international women's cricket. One of eight teams competing in the ICC Women's Championship, the team is organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The 2004 South Asian Games(or 9th SAF Games) were held in Islamabad, Pakistan in 2004. Originally scheduled for 2001, these games were postponed in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the United States in which the US later declared Pakistan a Major non-NATO ally. The slogan for these Games is "Rising Above".
The Pakistan national baseball team is the national team representing Pakistan in international baseball tournaments and competitions. They are ranked as the top and one of the most successful baseball teams in South Asia, winning the first SAARC Baseball Championship 8-2 against Sri Lanka in 2011. The team is currently ranked #28 in the world by the International Baseball Federation. The highest rank they have achieved was 21st.
The 2010 South Asian Games, officially the XI South Asian Games, was a major multi-sport event that took place from 29 January to 8 February 2010 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This was the third time that the Bangladeshi capital hosted the South Asian Games, thus becoming the first city to hold the games three times.
Pakistan first participated at the Paralympic Games in 1992, and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Paralympic Games since 1992. Pakistan has won two medals, a silver and a bronze medal in the Paralympic Games, both medals coming courtesy of Haider Ali in the Men's Long Jump event at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing and the 2016 Rio Summer Paralympics.

Abdul Khaliq (Subedar Abdul Khaliq, Parinda e Asia) was a Pakistani sprinter from 8 Medium Regiment Artillery who won 36 international gold medals, 15 international silver medals and 12 International bronze medals for Pakistan. He competed in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100 metres relay. He participated in 2 different Olympics, the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and the 1960 Rome Olympics. He also participated in two different Asian Games, the 1954 Asian Games & the 1958 Asian Games. He was born in the small village of Jand in Chakwal, Punjab, now in Pakistan, and died on 10 March 1988 in Rawalpindi.

The Pakistan Olympic Association, established in 1948, and recognised in the same year by the International Olympic Committee, is the National Olympic Committee for Pakistan.

The Pakistan U-23 national football team is a youth football team operated under the Pakistan Football Federation. The team represented Pakistan at the Summer Olympics, AFC U-22 Asian Cup, and the Asian Games.
The Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) is the national governing body to develop and promote the sport of Table Tennis in Pakistan. In 1951, Pakistan Table Tennis Federation was formed in Lahore. In the same year, PTTF started its activities for the promotion of Table Tennis in the Country. The first National Table Tennis Championship was held in the Burt Institute, Lahore. The PTTF is the member organization of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
The 2016 South Asian Games, officially the XII South Asian Games, is a major multi-sport event which took place from 5 February to 16 February 2016 in Guwahati and Shillong, India. A total of 2,672 athletes competed in 226 events over 22 sports. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati on 5 February 2016. The sporting giant of the region, India continued its dominance in the game's medal tally with a staggering 308 medals including 188 gold medals.
The Pakistan national beach handball team is the men's beach handball team that has represented Pakistan in international competition since 1984. It is governed by the Pakistan Handball Federation. They have been an affiliate of the International Handball Federation and member of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF), since April 1985.
Pakistan competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. According to the secretary general of Pakistan Olympic Association, around 397 Pakistani athletes participated in the Games.
