Spain and Pakistan have diplomatic and bilateral relations.
After the Partition of India in 1947, the Spanish city of Ceuta received a substantial influx of Sindhi Hindus from current-day Pakistan. [1]
Even though diplomatic relations between both countries were established relatively early after the birth of the state of Pakistan, they lacked in real substance for quite a while. [2] According to documentation from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they date from 17 September 1951. [3]
Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto made an official visit to Spain in 1994. [4] During her mandate as prime minister, a Bilateral Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments and a Memorandum of Understanding on Financial Cooperation were signed in 1995. [4]
Spain, particularly Catalonia, received a substantial influx of immigrants from Pakistan in the early 2000s. [5]
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf made an official visit to Spain in April 2007, visiting Madrid and Córdoba and meeting Spanish prime minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and king Juan Carlos I. [6] Prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani made an official visit in June 2010, signing an agreement to remove double taxation. [7]
As of 2017, the volume of trade between Pakistan and Spain stood at $1.1 billion, of which approximately $700 million was in Pakistan's favour. [8]
As of 2021 [update] the ambassador of Pakistan to Spain was Rafat Mahdi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
In September 2021, José Manuel Albares made an official visit to Pakistan, the first one by a Spanish foreign minister, seeking to meet prime minister Imran Khan, foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the Pakistani Army's Chief of Staff Qamar Javed Bajwa. [9] [10] He intended to somehow secure safe ways out of Afghanistan for the remaining Afghan collaborators with Spain in the wake of the Taliban takeover of the country. [10]
Both Greece and Spain are members of the European Union, NATO, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the OECD, the Union for the Mediterranean, and the United Nations.
The Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of Turkey maintain diplomatic relations. Spain has an embassy in Ankara and a consulate general in Istanbul. Turkey has an embassy in Madrid and a consulate general in Barcelona.

Spain has an embassy in Nouakchott and a consulate-general in Nouadhibou. Mauritania has an embassy in Madrid and a consulate-general in Las Palmas.
Equatorial Guinea–Spain relations are the diplomatic relations between Equatorial Guinea and Spain. Both nations are members of the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language, Organization of Ibero-American States and the United Nations.
Peru–Poland relations refers to the historical and bilateral relationship between Peru and Poland. Both nations are members of the United Nations.
Kazakhstan–Spain relations are the bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Spain. Both nations are members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
Algeria and Spain are full members of the Union for the Mediterranean.
Diplomatic relations exist between Australia and Spain. In the 2016 Australian Census, 120,952 Australian residents claimed Spanish descent, while 15,391 indicated they were born in Spain. Both nations are members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Italy–Venezuela relations are the diplomatic relations between Italy and Venezuela. It does have consulates in Madrid and Barcelona. The representation of Spain in Iceland is made from the Oslo embassy, in Norway. Spain has an honorary consulate and an honorary vice consulate in Reykjavik. Both countries are members of the Council of Europe, and NATO.
Luxembourg–Spain relations are the bilateral and diplomatic relations between these two countries. Relationships are mainly defined by the membership of both countries to the European Union and to NATO. Luxembourg has an embassy in Madrid and seven honorary consulates in Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca and Seville. Spain has an embassy in Luxembourg City.

Spain has an embassy in Stockholm, as well as an Economic and Social Department and another Tourism Department in the same city, and two honorary consulates in Malmö, Helsingborg and Gothenburg. Both countries are full members of Council of Europe and of the European Union.
Mozambique–Spain relations are the bilateral and diplomatic relations between these two countries. Mozambique has an embassy in Madrid. Spain has an embassy in Maputo.
José Manuel Albares Bueno is a Spanish diplomat who has been serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation in the government of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez since 2021.
