Pali Lehohla (born 27 September 1957) is a South African analyst and public educator who was the former Statistician-General of South Africa [1] [2] [3] [4] from 2000 and the chair of Africa Symposium for Statistical Development (ASSD). He previously served as chair of the United Nations Statistics Commission, as well as Chair of Statistics Commission Africa. [5]

Early life and education

Lehohla was born on 27 of September 1957. He has an honorary doctorate from the University of Stellenbosch, Certificate of Toponymy from University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lesotho. [3] [6] In the early 1990s, he worked with United Nations Statistics Commission and chair for the Sub-Group on Harmonization of Statistics in Africa, as well as the chief advisor to the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (MOC) of the 2008 Population and Housing Census of Sudan. [7]

He has been a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since May 2014. He has served in the national leadership of the Democratic Alliance (DA) as a deputy federal chairperson since 2023. He has also been the party's national spokesperson since August 2022, previously holding the position from June 2018 to November 2020. Malatsi was also the Parliamentary Counsellor to the DA Parliamentary Leader. He has also held posts in the DA's shadow cabinet.

Mabel JansenSC is a former judge of the High Court of Gauteng and a lawyer specialising in intellectual property, mercantile and constitutional law. She has acted on behalf of many of the large companies in South Africa and has chaired several commissions of enquiry. She was the first woman to be elected chair of the Pretoria Bar Association. Jansen appeared in court in South Africa's first case concerning patents for genetic engineering.

Luyolo Mphithi is a South African politician who has been a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. A member of the Democratic Alliance, he served as Shadow Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities in the Presidency from 2019 to 2023 and the Shadow Minister of Human Settlements from 2023 to 2024. Mphithi served as the Federal Leader of the DA's youth organisation from 2018 until his resignation in 2022. Luyolo Mphithi was elected as Vice President of the African Liberal Youth for democracy in Dakar, Senegal in 2022. He also serves as a Bureau Regional member of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY).

Vusumuzi Cyril Xaba is a South African politician and a former Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2019 to 2024. He served as Co-Chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee on Defence and as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans. A member of the African National Congress, he previously served in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature from 1994 to 2009 and from 2014 to 2019. He was the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2014 to 2016. Cyril Xaba was elected as mayor the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, which contains the city of Durban, following the resignation of former mayor Mxolisi Kaunda.

Mfana Robert Mashego is a South African politician who served as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation in the National Assembly from 2021 until 2024. A member of the African National Congress, he was Member of Parliament from 2019 until 2024. Mashego is also a member of the South African Communist Party.

Nomasonto Evelyn Motaung is a South African politician who was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the African National Congress in the 2019 national election. In March 2023, she was appointed as Deputy Minister in the Presidency and served in that position till 2024.

Boyce Makhosonke Maneli is a South African politician from Gauteng who has been Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour since 2024 and a Member of Parliament for the African National Congress since 2019. He had previously served as the Executive Mayor of the West Rand District Municipality from 2016 to 2019 and as the Regional Chairperson of the ANC's West Rand Region from 2014 to 2018.

Dikeledi Phillistus Magadzi is a South African African National Congress politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly from 2014 until 2023. She served as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport from 2014 to 2019, as Deputy Minister of Transport from 2019 to 2021 and as Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation from 2021 until 2023. Magadzi had previously served as a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in the Limpopo Provincial Government.

Elphus Fani Mathebula is a South African politician who served as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the African National Congress from 2019 until 2024.

Machwene Rosina Semenya is a South African politician who served as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements from 2021 until 2024. A member of the African National Congress, she had previously served as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries from 2014 to 2019 and as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation from 2019 to 2021. Semenya was a Member of Parliament from 2014 until 2024.

Marina van Zyl is a South African politician from the Democratic Alliance and member of the National Assembly of South Africa.

Risenga Maluleke is a South African politician and educator who is the current Statistician-General of South Africa since 2017 and head of Statistics South Africa. He previously served as manager for Statistics South Africa in Limpopo Province, head of Department of Economic Development, as well as executive manager in the Office of the Statistician-General.
