Paolo Mattavelli from the University of Padua, Italy was named Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2015 [1] for contributions to power converters for grid-connected applications and power management. [2]

Education and career

Mattavelli got his Master's in electrical engineering with honors from the University of Padua in 1992. He continued his education as European Space Agency Fellow, obtaining Ph.D. in the same field, from the same university, in 1996. Mattavelli was a visiting researcher with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Myongji University in 1995 and 1999, respectively. From 1995 to 2001, Mattavelli was a researcher at the University of Padua and from 2001 to 2005 held the same position at the University of Udine. During that time, he also was a researcher at Northeastern University and a year later, was promoted to an Associate Professor of Electronics at Udine University. When he returned to Padua University in 2005, Mattavelli continued serving as associate professor at the university's Department of Technology and Management of Industrial Systems. From 2010 to 2012 Mattavelli was with the Center for Power Electronics Systems at Virginia Tech. [3]

Since 2003, he serves as an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and is the IPCC Paper Review Chair for IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications. A year later, Mattavelli was promoted to the Technical Review Chairman for the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, remaining as such until 2010. [3]

Soumitro Banerjee is an Indian electrical engineer and director of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata. He is known for his studies on bifurcation phenomena in power electronic circuits and is an elected fellow of all three major Indian science academies: the National Academy of Sciences, India, Indian Academy of Sciences, and Indian National Science Academy. He is also a fellow of The World Academy of Sciences, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, West Bengal Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Academy of Engineering. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Engineering Sciences in 2003.

Ranjan Kumar Mallik is an Indian electrical and communications engineer and a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Francisco de León from the New York University Tandon School of Engineering, Brooklyn, New York. was named Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2015 for contributions to transformer modeling for electromagnetic transient studies.

Rajeev Thottappillil is a Professor in Electric Power Engineering and Design at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. He was named Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2015 for contributions to the understanding of lightning and electromagnetic interference.

Kiruba Sivasubramaniam Haran is an American engineer and professor. He is the Grainger Endowed Director's Chair in Electric Machinery and Electromechanics in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also serves as the Director of the POETS Engineering Research Center, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and is the Director of the Grainger Center for Electric Machinery and Electromechanics (CEME). Haran leads a research group focused on electrical machines at the University of Illinois. He is the founder and the Chief Technology Officer of Hinetics, a clean energy aviation start-up.

Md. Azizur (Aziz) Rahman was a Canadian inventor of modern energy-efficient electric motors that span multiple industry applications. He was an electrical engineer, professor, researcher and scientist. He is internationally recognized as one of the founding innovators of modern power engineering and a pioneer in the development and application of interior permanent magnet motors and associated drive technology-used in the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Prius. Since launching the Prius in 1997, Toyota surpassed global sales of 15 million hybrid vehicles in 2020, all of which use Dr. Rahman's IPM motor drive. His research contributions were broad and adopted in a wide range of electric motor applications ranging from vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, elevators to aircraft.
