Pascack Valley Hospital (PVH) is a former 291-bed hospital, located at 250 Old Hook Road, Westwood, New Jersey.

Westwood, New Jersey Borough in New Jersey

Westwood is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 10,908, reflecting a decline of 91 (-0.8%) from the 10,999 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 553 (+5.3%) from the 10,446 counted in the 1990 Census. Westwood is part of the New York metropolitan area. Many of its residents regularly commute to New York City for work and leisure, many using public transportation.

History

Pascack Valley Hospital opened on June 1, 1959, as an 86-bed community hospital. It underwent several expansions and grew to 291 beds. [2]

In 2005, the PVH completed construction on a new four-story addition to the hospital. This caused the hospital to incur an additional $80 million in debt. This, combined with several years of operating losses, forced Well Care Group, the owner of the hospital, to seek a buyer. In November 2006, Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) entered into a memorandum of understanding with PVH to acquire the hospital, with plans to keep the facility operating as a full acute-care hospital. Hackensack University Medical Center Hospital in New Jersey, United States

Hackensack University Medical Center (HackensackUMC) is a 770-bed non-profit, research and teaching hospital located seven miles (11 km) west of New York City, in Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey, providing tertiary and healthcare needs for northern New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area. HUMC is New Jersey's largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services and is the fourth largest hospital in the nation based on admissions. HUMC is affiliated with the New Jersey Medical School of Rutgers University.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) is a type of agreement between two (bilateral) or more (multilateral) parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action. It is often used either in cases where parties do not imply a legal commitment or in situations where the parties cannot create a legally enforceable agreement. It is a more formal alternative to a gentlemen's agreement.

Ultimately, Pascack's agreement with HUMC fell through, and on September 24, 2007, the hospital filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, with plans to liquidate the hospital's assets. In anticipation of closure, PVH began to limit its admissions. On November 21, the facility stopped providing medical care, and the administrative remaining departments closed shortly thereafter. Liquidation of assets

Days before the hospital closed in November 2007, the certificate of need for the hospital's mobile intensive care unit (which had provided advanced life support services to 18 towns in the Pascack and Northern Valleys) was auctioned in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Hackensack University Medical Center was the winning bidder at $3.6 million. [8] [9] On November 21, as soon as PVH closed its doors, HUMC began providing paramedic services to the area. [10]

A paramedic is a specialist healthcare professional who responds to emergency calls for medical help outside of a hospital. Paramedics mainly work as part of the emergency medical services (EMS), most often in ambulances. The scope of practice of a paramedic varies among countries, but generally includes autonomous decision making around the emergency care of patients.

After several delays, the hospital building and property were auctioned on February 27, 2008. Hackensack University Medical Center and Touro University College of Medicine won with a joint bid of $45 million. At the time, they had plans to reopen a full-service hospital and a new medical school. [11] But in September 2008, Touro backed out of the deal, deciding instead to open their medical school in Hasbrouck Heights. [12]

Touro University College of Medicine was a proposed medical school to be based out of Hackensack, New Jersey. Its hospital affiliate was to be Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC). The medical school disbanded in December 2009.

Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey Borough in New Jersey

Hasbrouck Heights is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 11,842, reflecting an increase of 180 (+1.5%) from the 11,662 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 174 (+1.5%) from the 11,488 counted in the 1990 Census. An inner-ring suburb of New York City, Hasbrouck Heights is located approximately 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Midtown Manhattan and 8 miles (13 km) west of Upper Manhattan.

Rebirth

On October 1, 2008, HUMC opened up a satellite emergency department called Hackensack University Medical Center North at Pascack Valley. [13]

HUMC, jointly with Legacy Hospital Partners, Inc. (now Ardent Health Services), sought to obtain a license to open a 128-bed acute care facility at the PVH site. [14] In February 2012, the New Jersey Health Commissioner announced approval of the HUMC application to open a fully functioning hospital on the site. The new hospital has 128 beds and is the first for-profit facility of its kind in Bergen County. [15]

Pascack Valley Line New Jersey Transit train service between Spring Valley, New York and Hoboken, New Jersey

The Pascack Valley Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Hoboken Division of New Jersey Transit, in the United States. The line runs north from Hoboken Terminal, through Hudson County and Bergen County in New Jersey, and into Rockland County in New York, terminating at Spring Valley. Service within New York State is operated under contract with Metro-North Railroad. The line is named for the Pascack Valley region that it passes through in northern Bergen County. The line parallels the Pascack Brook for some distance. The line is colored purple on system maps, and its symbol is a pine tree.

Pascack Valley High School

Pascack Valley High School (PVHS) is a four-year comprehensive regional public high school located in Hillsdale in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades as one of two secondary schools in the Pascack Valley Regional High School District. Pascack Valley High School serves the residents of both Hillsdale and neighboring River Vale, while its counterpart Pascack Hills High School serves the communities of Woodcliff Lake and Montvale. As part of its 1:1 eLearning Initiative, the school has provided a laptop to every student, teacher, and administrator for educational use.

New Bridge Landing station

New Bridge Landing, signed as New Bridge Landing at River Edge, is an NJ Transit rail station on the Pascack Valley Line. The station is located at Kinderkamack Road and Grand Avenue in River Edge, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. Along with the River Edge station, it is one of two stations in the borough. With the addition of "at River Edge" to the station's name, NJ Transit now recognizes the station as being in River Edge; when the station was originally called North Hackensack, NJT regarded the station as being in neighboring Hackensack. The station was built in 1870, as part of the northern extension of the New Jersey and New York Railroad from Hackensack's station at Essex Street. The station depot was demolished in 1978 and replaced by a shelter.

Poudre Valley Hospital (PVH), located in Fort Collins, Colorado, is part of UCHealth and serves northern Colorado, southern Wyoming, and western Nebraska. The hospital has 270 beds, and is a level III trauma center. It also houses 11 surgical suites, 12 intensive care unit beds, and a level III neonatal intensive care unit. The Hospital is home to a regional orthopedic program, and many cancer treatment and rehabilitation services as well. The hospital has helped make Fort Collins a regional health center, and continues to do so, despite the opening of its sister hospital, Medical Center of the Rockies.

Westwood station (NJ Transit) NJT station

Westwood is an NJ Transit railroad station in Westwood, New Jersey. It is on the Pascack Valley Line and is located at Broadway and Westwood Avenue. The next station northbound, heading toward Spring Valley, New York, is Hillsdale. The next station southbound, headed for Hoboken Terminal, is Emerson. The station consists of one track, one low-level platform with a miniature high-level platform and a station depot maintained by the borough of Westwood. Westwood also maintains the parking lots, consisting of 226 parking spaces, six of which are accessible based on the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990.

County Route 503 (New Jersey) highway in New Jersey

County Route 503, abbreviated CR 503, is a county highway in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The highway extends 17.95 miles from Paterson Plank Road in Carlstadt to the New York state line at the Montvale NJ/Pearl River NY border, where it continues as New York State Route 304. It parallels the Hackensack River and New Jersey Transit's Pascack Valley Line for much of its route.

Hackensack RiverWalk a is partially constructed greenway along the Newark Bay and Hackensack River on the west side of the Bergen Neck peninsula in Hudson County, New Jersey. The eight-mile walkway, following the contour of the water's edge, will run between the southern tip at Bergen Point, where it may connect to the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, and Eastern Brackish Marsh in the north. Existing parks and promenades have been incorporated and some new sections have been built, but there remain large gaps. There is a RiverWalk in the city of Hackensack, sometimes called the Hackensack RiverWalk, but they are not part of the same project nor are they connected. A parallel walkway on the west banks of the river is known as the Meadow Path.

Tuality Community Hospital is a non-profit, general care medical facility located in Hillsboro in the U.S. state of Oregon. The 167-bed facility was founded in 1918 in downtown, and is one of two hospitals in Hillsboro, Washington County’s most populous city. Tuality has partnerships with both Pacific University and Oregon Health & Science University. At six stories tall, the main building is tied for the tallest in the city with the Hillsboro Civic Center.

Hackensack Bus Terminal

Hackensack Bus Terminal, also called the Hackensack Bus Transfer, is a regional bus station in downtown Hackensack, New Jersey, owned and operated by New Jersey Transit. The bus station was built in the 1970s and was extensively renovated in 2007. An outdoor central island boarding–disembarking area surrounds an indoor waiting room and ticketing facilities. Service from nearby bus stops travels to locations in Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Hudson counties as well as the Port Authority Bus Terminal and George Washington Bridge Bus Station in New York City. In October 2018, the Hackensack Transit Connector, servicing the bus terminal, the city's train stations, and the County Courthouse Complex, was initiated.

Hackensack and New York Railroad

Hackensack and New York Railroad was a New Jersey railroad company which was chartered in 1856. The railway ran from Rutherford, New Jersey to Hackensack, New Jersey and service started in 1858. Construction along a northward extension of the line known as the Hackensack and New York Extension Railroad under the leadership of David P. Patterson started in 1866. Service to Hillsdale opened on March 4, 1870. The company is said to have gone into receivership by 1878 and reorganized as the New Jersey and New York Railroad, extended into Rockland County, New York and leased by the Erie Railroad in 1896. The track right of way is now New Jersey Transit's Pascack Valley Line.
