KSV Hessen Kassel is a semi-professional German football club based in Kassel, Hesse. KSV competes in the German Regionalliga Südwest, the fourth tier of German football. Nicknamed "Die Löwen", the club was founded as FC Union 93 Kassel in 1893. A series of mergers, insolvency and re-starts led to the club known today being re-formed on 3 February 1998. The club's colours are red and white and their home ground since 1953 has been the Auestadion, located in the southwest of the city of Kassel next to the historic Karlsaue park.

At the 1976 Olympics he pinned all his five opponents, in total spending less than 17 minutes on the mat. He was the Soviet flag bearer and a clear favorite at the Moscow Olympics, but injured an Achilles tendon in the second bout and withdrew from the tournament. He recovered by 1984, when he won his last Soviet title and was selected for the 1984 Games, but could not compete because of the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott by the Soviet Union. He retired from competitions to become a wrestling coach n Moscow. In 2006 he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Jurij Kohl is a retired amateur German Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's lightweight category. He achieved top five finishes in the 60-kg division at the European Championships, and also represented his nation Germany at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Before his competitive sporting career ended in 2012, Kohl trained full-time as a member of the wrestling club for KSV Köllerbach and ASV Mainz 88, under his personal coach Frank Hartmann. Born and raised in the former Soviet Union, Kohl also held a dual citizenship to compete for Germany in numerous wrestling tournaments, including the Olympic Games.
Jannis Zamanduridis is a retired amateur German Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's welterweight category. Considered as one of Germany's most promising wrestlers in his decade, Zamanduridis has claimed two medals in the 68-kg division at the World Championships, but took an early hiatus shortly to focus on his coaching staff for the German wrestling team. In 2003, Zamanduridis suddenly came out of his impending retirement to compete for Germany at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Throughout his sporting career, Zamanduridis trained full time as a member of the wrestling club for KSV Köllerbach, under his personal coach Frank Hartmann.
