Plot

The film tells the story of Sankara Narayanan, a 55-year-old gangman from the Indian Railways. From his teenage days onward he was afraid of the strange voices that talked to him incessantly. To escape the fear, he seeks refuge in alcohol, alienating himself from his family and ending up in an asylum. His son Ramu could never sympathise with a father who had shirked his responsibility as a husband and a father. But Narayanan starts writing letters from the asylum, to which Ramu doesn't even bother to reply. A young doctor tries to help Sankara Narayanan, for he knows that he can be cured. The doctor not only intends to reunite Narayanan with his family but also has something very important to reveal to Ramu.

The story follows Jagannadhan (Mohanlal), a former Mumbai-based criminal who buys an old kovilakam named Kanimangalam and shifts the balance of power in that village, and he comes to be known as "Aaram Thampuran". The film features original songs composed by Raveendran. Aaraam Thampuran became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year 1997, and completed more than 250 days theatrical run. The film broke the collection record of Mohanlal-starrer Chandralekha released in the same year.

Makal is a 2022 Indian Malayalam-language family drama film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad and written by Iqbal Kuttippuram. The film stars Jayaram, Meera Jasmine, Devika Sanjay, Sreenivasan, Innocent, and Naslen K. Gafoor. The film is produced by Central Pictures, the company that previously produced Anthikad's Kudumbapuranam, Kalikkalam and Oru Indian Pranayakatha. This marks the return of Meera Jasmine after a six year sabbatical in cinema.
