Pathways Academy opened after Catherine Ferguson Academy, another Detroit school serving students who are pregnant or new mothers, closed.

In 2018, Pathways Academy was identified by the4 Michigan Department of Education as a low-performing school. [4]

To receive a full scholarship, students must have attended Kalamazoo public schools since kindergarten.

Mark Steven Schlissel is an American academic administrator and medical scientist who was most recently president of the University of Michigan. He was named the 14th president of the university on July 1, 2014, following the retirement of Mary Sue Coleman. His initial contract with the University of Michigan lasted five years, and he received a second five-year contract, which was due to expire in 2024. He had planned to step down as president in 2023, but was removed by the University of Michigan Board of Regents on January 15, 2022, due to involvement "in an inappropriate relationship with a University employee." Wilton Speight American football player (born 1994)

Robert Wilton Speight III is a former American football quarterback. He played college football for the UCLA Bruins and Michigan Wolverines. In high school he was a 2014 Under Armour All-America Game selection and subsequently played college football for the Michigan Wolverines. Speight redshirted in 2014 and was the backup quarterback in 2015. As a redshirt sophomore in 2016, he started 12 games and earned third-team All-Big Ten honors. In 2017, Speight started four games before suffering a season-ending injury. In April 2018, Speight transferred to UCLA.

Flint water crisis Contamination by lead of water supply in Flint, Michigan

The Flint water crisis is a public health crisis that started in 2014 after the drinking water for the city of Flint, Michigan was contaminated with lead and possibly Legionella bacteria. In April 2014, during a budget crisis, Flint changed its water source from treated Detroit Water and Sewerage Department water to the Flint River. Residents complained about the taste, smell, and appearance of the water. Officials failed to apply corrosion inhibitors to the water, which resulted in lead from aging pipes leaching into the water supply, exposing around 100,000 residents to elevated lead levels. A pair of scientific studies confirmed that lead contamination was present in the water supply. The city switched back to the Detroit water system on October 16, 2015. It later signed a 30-year contract with the new Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) on November 22, 2017.

2020 Michigan graduate students strike 2020 labor strike at the University of Michigan

The 2020 Michigan graduate students' strike was a labor strike launched by the Graduate Employees' Organization 3550, the graduate student employee union that represents approximately 2,100 graduate student instructors at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. The main cause of the strike was related to graduate students' objection to the university's plans for reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional calls were made by the union for defunding the campus police. The strike started on September 8, 2020 and was scheduled to last for four days, with a subsequent vote extending the strike for another week. Following the start of the strike, resident assistants and student employees for the university's dining services announced they would also strike over similar concerns regarding the university's COVID-19 policies.
