Chadsey Senior High School was a public secondary school in Detroit, Michigan.
Chadsey Senior High School was named in honor of Charles E. Chadsey - Superintendent of the Detroit Public Schools, 1912–1919; Chadsey High was constructed and organized in 1931. Since the school was not ready for occupancy on opening day, Chadsey's sessions were held - following dismissal of younger students - at adjacent Munger Intermediate School. Finally, on October 12, 1931, construction was completed and Chadsey High School began operation. [1]
The date of occupancy - Columbus Day - inspired nicknames; for the athletic teams: the Explorers; the school newspaper: The Navigator; the school annual: The Compass, and Discovery: Chadsey's literary magazine. Fittingly, the school colors chosen for Chadsey High were those under which Columbus sailed: the vermilion and gold of Spain's Ferdinand and Isabella. [1]
Chadsey High School added one half-grade of secondary classes, each semester until January 1934; the first graduating class celebrated its matriculation in June 1934. Chadsey High School was first accredited by the University of Michigan in 1934, and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1939. [1]
The Detroit school district underestimated the impact of population decline in the City of Detroit and failed to proactively manage reduction in staff and facilities; an emergency manager was appointed. The district's $285-million deficit for 2009-2010 led to the layoff of nearly 1,900 teachers and administrators; the financial difficulties also forced the closing of 29 educational facilities, including Charles E. Chadsey High School. [2] Munger Elementary-Middle School is located on the former site.
Its neighborhoods were assigned to the Southwestern High School zone. Students began attending regular classes there in September 2009.
The school has been demolished as of February 9, 2011. The land was needed so Detroit Public Schools can build a new $22.3 million school on the property. Local artisans are being allowed to pick through the rubble for pieces of 1920s limestone for a community garden. [3]
The track and field program won the girl's state championship in 1982. [4]

The University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy was founded in 1877, and is one of two Jesuit high schools in the city of Detroit, Michigan, the other being Loyola High School. Located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit, the school is rooted in the Ignatian tradition. It is an all-boys school with an academy for grades seven and eight. The Catholic High School League (CHSL) is a school athletic conference based in Detroit, Michigan, led by director Victor Michaels. Most member schools are also members of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), the governing body for Michigan scholastic sports, except for the five schools from Toledo, which are members of the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Unlike many similar leagues, the CHSL governs secondary, middle, and elementary sports for most of the parochial schools in the Detroit area. Most league schools are Catholic, but there are other religious denominations as well. Every school in the CHSL is a private school. In 2019, the CHSL council voted to rename the AB/ Division I/II championship to the Bishop division championship, and the CD/ Division III/IV championship to the Cardinal Division championship.
Kalamazoo Central High School is a public high school in Kalamazoo, Michigan serving students from ninth through twelfth grades. It was the first public high school in Michigan. It began operating in 1858 and graduated its first class of five men and three women in 1859. It moved to its current location in 1972. King's district encompasses Downtown and Midtown Detroit; it also includes Lafayette Park, the Martin Luther King Apartments and Riverfront Condominiums. The Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects were zoned to MLK prior to their demolition. In addition it includes the three Wayne State University housing complexes that permit families with children.

Thomas Wilcher is a high school athletic coach and teacher who was previously a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I track and field national champion in the indoor 55 m hurdles and a three-time NCAA All-American in track and field for the University of Michigan. Wilcher was also a running back for the Michigan Wolverines football team from 1983–1986. In his redshirt senior year, he was a member of the Big Ten Conference football champion team as well as a 110 m hurdles Big Ten individual champion. Wilcher was a 9th round selection by the San Diego Chargers in the 1987 NFL Draft.

Ford High opened its doors on September 5, 1957; it was constructed to accommodate an overflow of students from nearby Cooley, Mumford, and Redford high schools. In 2007, DPS closed Redford High School. As a result, Henry Ford now serves the Detroit sub-community of Old Redford. DPS will re-assume control of Ford High in fall 2017.
