Patna Film Festival is an international film festival in Patna, India. Participant countries include Iran, Canada, China, Japan, Sweden, Germany, Russia, the United States, and India. [1] Patna Film Festival started in 2006. It was jointly organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), directorate of the film festival, National Film Archive of India, Federation of Film Societies of India, and the state government. History

2000s

The first Patna Film Festival was held the week of February 11, 2006, at Mona Cinema hall, Patna. [2] Shekhar Kapoor, Sudhir Mishra, Aziz Mirza, Shatrughan Sinha, Shekhar Suman, Manoj Bajpai, Prakash Jha were among the attendees. [3] A total of 24 films from India, Iran, Canada, and China were screened, in the Bengali, Marathi and Malayalam languages. [4] Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi was the inaugural film.

The second event was held in February 2007. [5] The foreign segment of the festival had one movie each in French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Swedish languages.

The third festival was held the week of April 5, 2008, at Regent Theater. [1] Participant countries were Japan, Sweden, Germany, Russia, the United States, and India. [6] Taare Zameen Par was the inaugural film. [7] Bhojpuri, Kannada, Marathi and Telugu language films were also part of the festival.

Patna International Film Festival

The organizers of renamed Patna International Film Festival (PIFF) launched a pre-festival campaign on March 22, 2015, in several districts of Bihar. The campaign started in Patna with a screening of Children of War , based on the 1971 Bangladesh war. Popular actors like Raima Sen, Riddhi Sen, and Pawan Malhotra, as well as director Mritunjay Devavrat, were present.[ citation needed ]

The PIFF, organized by Cineyatra, commenced at the BAMETI auditorium on April 16. Based on the theme a Ganga, Gandhi aur Balidana, it was the first of its kind in the state. It was decided to host the festival in April as Mahatma Gandhi visited Patna on April 10, 1917, before launching his Chamapran Satyagraha.[ clarification needed ] Prior to that Gandhi held several meetings across the state. The theme aimed to commemorate his visit.[ clarification needed ][ citation needed ]

Fifteen feature films were screened, including six from Sri Lanka. Documentaries and short films were shown from altogether seven countries, including Sri Lanka, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, China, Nepal, and Malaysia. The PIFF concluded on the banks of the Ganga at Patna College.

Sri Lanka was granted a special guest status with a festival country (utsav desh) tag. Bihar and Sri Lanka share a common bond, especially because of Buddhism, which spread from Bihar to the island. Sri Lankans visit Bodh Gaya, the seat of Buddha's enlightenment. The festival logo included the Sri Lankan flag, says Raviraj Patel.

The festival was divided into four segments a Bharatiyam, Vishwachaya, Bihar in Cinema and Samkatha.

Guest film makers in PIFF : Vimukte Jay sundare from Sri Lanka, Dhanushka from Sri Lanka, Bijaya Jena, Sanjivan Lal, Karan Baali, Shubhadra Chaudhary, Sudhir Palsane, Dilip Patnayak, Joshi Joshef, Kapilash Bhuinyan and Susant Misra.

The festival was organized by Bihar state film development and finance corporation limited under the Art, Culture and Youth Department government of Bihar. Guest film personalities included Seema Kapoor, Lenin Rajendran, Uthara Unni, Pawan Malhotra, Sandeep Sawant, Paresh Mokashi, Nandu Madhav, Sabyasachi Mohapatra, Atal Bihari Panda, Susant Misra, Dilip Patnayak, Ramkumar Singh and Gajendra Sarotriya. The festival was coordinated and curated by Raviraj Patel, a youth filmmaker, and writer from Bihar.

Veer Savarkar is a 2001 Indian Hindi-language biopic film based on the life of Indian Freedom fighter, social reformer and politician Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. This version was released on DVD format. This film is produced by Savarkar Darshan Prathisthan, under the president-ship of Sudhir Phadke. It was premiered on 16 November 2001, in Mumbai, New Delhi, Nagpur and six other Indian cities. On 28 May 2012 its Gujarati language version was released by then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi.

<i>Pulipaarvai</i> 2014 Indian film

Pulipaarvai is a 2014 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Praveen Gandhi who also co-produced, composed and wrote all the songs and handled editing and art respectively. It is based on the real life of Balachandran Prabhakaran, the youngest son of the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, who is widely believed to have been executed after he surrendered to the Sri Lankan Army during the final stages of the Sri Lankan Civil War. Gandhi's inspiration to make the movie came after seeing documentaries about Balachandran's execution on Channel 4 and BBC.

In the 1982–83 cricket season, the Sri Lankan national cricket team toured to India to play the Indian national cricket team. The tour included one Test match. That match was drawn. Three players scored centuries; Duleep Mendis scored 105 in both Sri Lankan innings, and Sunil Gavaskar and Sandeep Patil scored 155 and 144 respectively, both in India's first innings. Three players took a five-wicket haul in the game; Dilip Doshi took five wickets for 85 runs in Sri Lanka's first innings, Kapil Dev took five wickets for 110 runs and Ashantha de Mel took five wickets for 68 runs.

Indradhanura Chhai is a 1993 Indian Oriya film directed by Susant Misra. This film reflects the traditional structures of social and family life of a small town in India are growing strongly affected by the progressive urbanization of the country. Three generations of women see their perception of human nature to evolve, as their personal relationships. In their loneliness, they face problems of tradition, culture, religion and manage gender relations. Gradual urbanization and its consequences affect the traditional, social and family structures in a growing small town in India. The story explores the multidimensional conflicts of three women of different generations, their changing perceptions about human nature and personal relationships. Their lonely moments are highlighted in the context of the inexorable flow of time amidst issues of tradition, culture, religion and man-woman relationships.

<i>Sardaar Gabbar Singh</i> 2016 film directed by K. S. Ravindra

Sardaar Gabbar Singh is a 2016 Indian Telugu-language action comedy film co-written and directed by K. S. Ravindra, based on an original story by Pawan Kalyan. A sequel to Gabbar Singh (2012), it stars Pawan Kalyan reprising his role from the previous film alongside Kajal Aggarwal and Sharad Kelkar. In the film, brave policeman Gabbar Singh (Kalyan) rescues the residents of Rathanpur when they are forced to face the wrath of Bhairav Singh (Kelkar), who unceremoniously usurps their land.

The 350th Prakash Parv or birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh ji was celebrated in January 2017 in Patna, India. 2017 is the year of the 350th anniversary of the 10th Sikh Guru, a spiritual master, warrior, poet and philosopher. At the date of this anniversary, a number of events was organized on the occasion in Patna marking a grand celebration in their history.

Chandan Tiwari is an Indian folk singer from Bihar. She is known as folk singer and sings in Bhojpuri, Nagpuri, Awadhi and Hindi. She was awarded Sangeet Natak Academy-Bismillah Khan Samman. She was honoured by Bhojpuri Kokila in Kolkata. BAG Films-News 24 awarded her best traditional folk singer. She appeared in India Today Magazine in cover story for her contributions to Indian folk music. She has been singing in various forms of folks like Purabi Sohar, Pachra Gandhi song, River Song, Chhath Song Kajri and Thumri.
