Patricia Anne "Patty" Dillon Cafferata (born November 24,1940) is an American politician and lawyer.
Born in Albany,New York,Cafferata graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a degree in elementary education and received her J.D. degree from Southwestern University School of Law. [1] She practiced law in Reno,Nevada. Her mother was Barbara Vucanovich who served in the United States House of Representatives from Nevada and her grandfather was General Thomas Farrell. In 1978,she was elected to the Nevada Assembly as a Republican. Then in 1982,Cafferata was elected Nevada State Treasurer. She also served as district attorney in three Nevada counties. Cafferata has also written several books and articles. [2] [3] [4] [5] Cafferata was the Republican nominee for Governor of Nevada in 1986,losing in a landslide to popular incumbent Richard Bryan.

A Democrat,Bryan previously served as the state's attorney general and a member of the State Senate.

She taught at the University of Nevada,Reno,and at Nevada Southern,which became the University of Nevada,Las Vegas.
Henry Rust Mighels was a US journalist and politician. A writer of the Sagebrush School,he was the editor and publisher of Carson City,Nevada's Nevada Appeal. He was born in Norway,Maine. He served in the Union Army during the American Civil War as assistant adjutant general,with the rank of captain,and was wounded in action. In 1868,he was elected State Printer and served a two-year term. In 1876,he was elected to the Nevada Assembly,serving as Speaker in 1877. The following year,he ran unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor of Nevada. He was also an artist,painting still life and landscapes. His one book,Sage Brush Leaves (1879),consists of literary essays. He died of cancer in 1879 in Carson City and is buried at Lone Mountain Cemetery next to his wife Nellie Verrill Mighels Davis. The Mighels had three sons,including Henry R. Mighels Jr. and Philip Verrill Mighels;and two daughters. Henry J. Mighels Jr. took over as editor of the Appeal in 1898. Philip's ex-wife,Ella Sterling Mighels,was the "First Literary Historian of California".

She was the first head of the department of history of the University of Nevada (1897–1901) And was active in the suffrage movement in England in 1909–1911,working with Emmeline Pankhurst. She was president of the Nevada equal franchise society in 1912,and the first national chairman of the National Woman's Party in 1916. She was the first woman to run for the United States Senate;She lost twice,in 1918 and 1920.

Geneva Smith Douglas was a nuclear physicist and radiation scientist who worked for both the U.S. Public Health Service and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She served as a scientific collaborator for the nuclear industry and the communities local to her work in researching the impacts of nuclear weapon testing programs at the Nevada Test Site. She developed an offsite radiation monitoring program in her time as the Program Operations Manager of the Environmental Monitoring Systems Laboratory and focused much of her time to speaking and advising on nuclear safety and nuclear testing throughout her career and following her retirement. Douglas was an activist for Soroptimist International and was a charter member of Soroptimist International of Greater Las Vegas. Douglas,with her previous employment and her position within Soroptimist International,lobbied Congress on environmental issues,such as environmental preservation.
