Patricia Rucker (born Patricia Elena Puertas on April 27,1974,in Caracas) is a Republican member of the West Virginia Senate,representing the 16th district since January 11,2017. Rucker served as the chairwoman of the Senate Education Committee from 2019 to 2022. [1]
Rucker was born in Venezuela. [2] The first Hispanic woman to represent West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle,Rucker emigrated from Venezuela with her parents at the age of 6 and became a U.S. citizen in 2004. [2]
2020:After running unopposed in the 2020 Republican primary,Rucker faced Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty in the November 3,2020 general election. [3] Rucker beat Dougherty by a slim 52-48% margin to win a second term. [4]

2016:After the retirement of Herb Snyder,Rucker ran for the Republican nomination in the open seat race. Rucker,a teacher and president of We The People of West Virginia and Jefferson County,a local tea-party affiliate,faced attorney and lobbyist Joe Funkhouser in the Republican primary. [6] Rucker beat Funkhouser 56-44% to advance to the November general election. [7] Rucker faced Delegate Stephen Skinner in a rematch of their 2014 House race. Rucker defeated Skinner 53%-47%.

Shelley Wellons Moore Capito is an American politician and retired educator serving in her second term as the junior United States senator from West Virginia,a post she has held since 2015. A member of the Republican Party,Capito served seven terms as the U.S. representative from West Virginia's 2nd congressional district from 2001 to 2015. The daughter of three-term West Virginia governor Arch Alfred Moore Jr.,she is the dean of West Virginia's congressional delegation.
John Ronald Unger II is a former American politician and magistrate. Prior to his appointment as a Berkeley County magistrate,Unger represented the 16th district in the West Virginia Senate from 1999 to 2021. The 16th District includes all of Jefferson County and a portion of Berkeley County. At the time of his retirement from the West Virginia Senate,Unger was the third active longest-serving senator and longest serving senator from the Eastern Panhandle.

Robin Jean Davis is an American jurist who served on the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. First elected to fill an unexpired term in 1996,Davis later won full twelve-year terms in 2000 and 2012. Stephen Skinner is an American politician who formerly served in the West Virginia House of Delegates. A member of the West Virginia Democratic Party,he represented the 67th District in the legislature. He was first elected in the 2012 state elections. Skinner won re-election to the House of Delegates in 2014 by defeating Republican challenger and future Senator Patricia Rucker.
Mitchell Carmichael is an American politician. He is a former Republican member of the West Virginia Senate representing District 4 from 2012 until his defeat in 2020. Prior to his service in the Senate,Carmichael served in the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 12 from 2000 through 2012.
