Paul Murphy (born 2 August 1991) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for the Rathmore club and at senior level for the Kerry county team since 2014. He usually plays as a wing back. He has captained Kerry. He won an All Star Award in 2014 and received a nomination in 2016. [1]
Murphy started the 2014 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final at right half back and received the man of the match award. [2] [3]
Paul notably has attributed much of his enthusiasm for football to his deceased dog Sam, named after the All Ireland trophy 'Sam Maguire'. Many a night, Paul will be found in front of a woodlog fire, brandy in hand, regailling stories of playing football with Sam. Upon, Sam's untimely roadside death, Paul dedicated his life to football in his memory - and thus the rest is history.
In 2021, Paul welcomed his new canine friend 'Freddie' - he has since become a staple in Paul's life. Coincidently, Paul has become an avid Queen fan.
