Paula R. L. Heron is a Canadian-American physics educator who works as a professor of physics at the University of Washington.
Heron has bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from the University of Ottawa in 1990 and 1991. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Western Ontario in 1995. [1]
Heron is one of the founders and leaders of "Foundations and Frontiers in Physics Education Research",a biennial conference in physics education. [1] In 2014 she became co-chair of the Joint Task Force on Undergraduate Physics Programs of the American Association of Physics Teachers and American Physical Society (APS). [2] She was chair for the 2020 term of the APS Topical Group on Physics Education Research. [3]
In 2007,Heron was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society,after a nomination from the APS Forum on Education,"for "her leadership in the physics education research community and development and active dissemination of research-based curricula that significantly impact physics instruction throughout the world". [4] She was part of the University of Washington Physics Education Group that was honored in 2008 with the APS Excellence in Physics Education Award,"for leadership in advancing research methods in physics education,promoting the importance of physics education research as a subdiscipline of physics,and developing research-based curricula that have improved students' learning of physics from kindergarten to graduate school". The American Physical Society (APS) is a not-for-profit membership organization of professionals in physics and related disciplines,comprising nearly fifty divisions,sections,and other units. Its mission is the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of physics. The society publishes more than a dozen scientific journals,including the prestigious Physical Review and Physical Review Letters,and organizes more than twenty science meetings each year. APS is a member society of the American Institute of Physics. Since January 2021 the organization has been led by chief executive officer Jonathan Bagger.
Helen Rhoda Arnold Quinn is an Australian-born particle physicist and educator who has made major contributions to both fields. Her contributions to theoretical physics include the Peccei–Quinn theory which implies a corresponding symmetry of nature and contributions to the search for a unified theory for the three types of particle interactions. As Chair of the Board on Science Education of the National Academy of Sciences,Quinn led the effort that produced A Framework for K-12 Science Education:Practices,Crosscutting Concepts,and Core Ideas—the basis for the Next Generation Science Standards adopted by many states. Her honours include the Dirac Medal of the International Center for Theoretical Physics,the Oskar Klein Medal from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences,appointment as an Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia,the J. J. Sakurai Prize for Theoretical Particle Physics from the American Physical Society,the Karl Taylor Compton Medal for Leadership in Physics from the American Institute of Physics,and the 2018 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Physics from the Franklin Institute.

Milton Dean Slaughter is an American theoretical and phenomenological physicist and affiliate professor of physics at Florida International University. Slaughter was a visiting associate professor of physics in the Center for Theoretical Physics,University of Maryland,College Park while on sabbatical from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) of the University of California from 1984 to 1985. He is also chair emeritus and university research professor of physics emeritus at the University of New Orleans (UNO). Julia Wan-Ping Hsu is an American materials scientist. In her research,she uses scanning probe microscopy to study the nanostructure,optics,and photoelectric properties of thin films and crystal surfaces,with particular application to solar cells,and has used nanotransfer printing to make electrical connections to single-molecule sensing devices. She is a professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas,where she holds the Texas Instruments Distinguished Chair in Nanoelectronics.
Luz Martinez-Miranda from the University of Maryland,was awarded the status of Fellow in the American Physical Society,after she was nominated by the Forum on Education in 2007,for sustained achievements in recruiting,mentoring,and advancing women and minorities in physics;for engaging K-16 students in the excitement of research;and for being a superb role model through her elegant research to understand liquid crystal systems and further their application. Her bachelors and masters are from the University of Puerto Rico in physics. She graduated with her Ph.D. in 1985 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She is an undergraduate advisor for the Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Maryland. She researches the interaction of liquid crystal with nanoscale materials for engineering and biological applications.
