Peer Mohammed Hussain Soharvardi (born 12 April 1941) is a Kashmiri politician and former Minister of State in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. He served as Member of Legislative Assembly (2002-2008) after being elected from the Shangus assembly constituency. He,subsequently,also served as Vice Chairman of the J&K Muslim Wakf Board.
Hussain was born on 12 April 1942 in Kadapora,Anantnag to Haajra Begum and Peer Salam-ud-din Soharvardi. He is a descendent of the famous Soharvardi clan,a family of prominent Sufi Saints and Hakeems. He is Sayyid (descendant of Muhammad). He has four children. One of his daughters,Sameena Hussain,currently serves as District Development Council Member from Achabal Block on the mandate of People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration. [1] One of his sons,Advocate Hashim Hussain Soharvardi,is the former Additional Advocate General of J&K and a prominent youth leader of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. [2] [3] His son-in-law Peerzada Mansoor Hussain is also former member Legislative Assembly from Shangus,Anantnag (2008-2014). [4]
He did his early schooling from Govt. Higher Secondary School,Anantnag. He did B.Sc. Agriculture from Birsa Agricultural University in Ranchi.[ citation needed ]
He also served as a Civil Servant. He has been designated as ACD Anantnag,Director Rural Development Department and District Magistrate in various parts of the Chenab Valley including various other posts as well. After retirement he joined Mufti Mohammed Sayeed to form the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party.[ citation needed ]
Peer Mohd. Hussain was long before his retirement affiliated to politics. He was one of the closest aids of Mirza Afzal Beg.[ citation needed ]
In 1999,Mufti Mohammed Sayeed,Tariq Hameed Karra,Ghulam Hassan Mir and Hussain formed the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party. He played a huge role in introducing the party to the Chenab Valley where he was quite influential. He was instrumental in popularizing the party in South Kashmir. He was also a part of the general council of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party. [5] He contested in the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election from Shangus in District Anantnag on the mandate of Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party and comfortably won the seat defeating the runner up Gulzar Ahmad Wani of Indian National Congress. In the coalition government of Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party and Indian National Congress when Ghulam Nabi Azad was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Hussain was appointed Minister of State of Jammu and Kashmir. He was given the portfolios of PDD,Health,Fisheries and Higher Education. [6] [7] He served as Minister of State until 2008.
In 2009,he contested the 2009 Indian general election from Anantnag (Lok Sabha constituency) on the mandate of Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party [8] [9] in which he lost to Jammu and Kashmir National Conference candidate Mirza Mehboob Beg by a rather slim margin. On,23 March 2015 he was appointed Vice Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Wakf Board by CM Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. [10] After the death of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed,Mehbooba Mufti was sworn in as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. [11] Hussain started maintaining distance from the party as he was not satisfied with the leadership's treatment of senior leader's and he was also not in favour of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government. He claimed that Mehbooba Mufti was cornered by stooges who were leading her to the wrong way,he claimed that they were harming the party's reputation on the ground level. [12] [13] In November 2017,he resigned from the post VC Wakf Board and the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party. [14] [15]
On 19 Dec 2018,he joined Jammu and Kashmir National Conference at the residence of Farooq Abdullah amidst thousands of his supporters leaving Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party where he was a co-founder. [16] [17] [18] [19]
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was an Indian politician who served twice as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir,during November 2002–November 2005 and March 2015–January 2016. He was also Minister of Tourism in Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet and Home Minister of India in V. P. Singh's cabinet. He started in the wing of the National Conference led by G. M. Sadiq,which later merged into the Indian National Congress. He switched to Janata Dal in 1987,eventually founding his own regional party,People's Democratic Party (PDP). The PDP continues to be a political force in Jammu and Kashmir,currently led by his daughter Mehbooba Mufti.
Mehbooba Mufti Sayed is an Indian politician of the PDP,who served as the 9th Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 4 April 2016 to 19 June 2018. She was the first Female CM of J&K. After the revocation of the special status (autonomy) of the state in August 2019,Mufti was detained without any charges at first and later under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act. She was released only in October 2020,after the Supreme Court of India quizzed the government about the length of her detention.
The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a state political party in Jammu and Kashmir,India. The PDP was headed and founded by Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. His daughter,Mehbooba Mufti,succeeded him as party leader and as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir following his death in January 2016. The party is a member of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration electoral alliance. The party is also a member of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance since its founding on 18 June 2023.

Bijbehara (Urdu pronunciation:[bɪd͡ʒbɪhaːɽaː],known as Vejibror in Kashmiri,is a town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district of the Indian administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is located on NH 44,and jehlum bank. Bijbehara town is also known as "Town of Chinars" because of a number of Chinars there especially two Chinar gardens. Bijbehara is the home to oldest chinar tree in the region. The town is situated about 45 km from the summer capital of union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,Srinagar.
Mirza Mehboob Beg is a veteran Indian politician from Jammu and Kashmir,belonging to the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) and currently serving as its General Secretary(Organisation). Beg has been elected to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly,Legislative Council and the Indian Parliament various times. He has also served as the Cabinet Minister for Health,Family Welfare and Medical Education.
Shangus is an assembly constituency and a tehsil in Anantnag district of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the biggest village in Anantnag District in terms of Population and area. Jamia Masjid Shangus popular as Masjid e Mukaram is the 2nd largest Masjid in J&K after Jamia Masjid,Srinagar.The old Jama Masjid shangus was the third-largest mosque in Kashmir,after Srinagar and shopian built on the pattern of Srinagar and Shopian Jamia Masjids. It was heavily influenced by Persian architecture and has a square garden in the middle. The construction of the mosque started on November 9,1949,and was completed in 1955,taking around 6 years at that time. According to ancestors,when the fundraising began,it was around 300 rupee first time &then money for the construction of the mosque was collected from the whole area,totaling 18,000 rupees at that time during the inaugural construction. Later,it was upgraded and decorated over time to time In 2020,it was decided that reconstruction should take place by the local body of auqaf but it took some time because of COVID that time .The reconstruction started with a stone-laying ceremony on August 13,2021,and is continuing to this date. Its area was increased from two sides,making it the second-largest mosque in all of Kashmir after Historic Srinagar jamia masjid &taking over shopian mosque. The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election,2014 was held in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir in five phases from 25 November –20 December 2014. Voters elected 87 members to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly,which ends its six-year term on 19 January 2020. The results were declared on 23 December 2014. Voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) along with EVMs were used in 3 assembly seats out of 87 in Jammu Kashmir elections.

Abdul Rehman Veeria.k.a.Abdul Rehman Bhat is an Indian politician and the former member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly,who represented Bijbehara constituency from 1999 to June 2018 until the coalition government was ended by the Bhartiya Janata Party and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
Ghulam Hassan Mir is an Indian politician from Jammu and Kashmir,India. He is a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party. He was the founding member of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party. He was elected to the Gulmarg constituency of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 2002 as a Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party candidate. He was a law minister in Ghulam Mohammad Shah led cabinet. He was minister of tourism in the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led cabinet from 2002 to 2006.
Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali is an Indian politician and former cabinet minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He is an Advocate by profession and was part of the 11th and 12th Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from Darhal constituency. He is a second-generation politician whose father Chowdhary Mohmmad Hussain was a renowned politician in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Zulfkar has also served as Cabinet Minister under the Chief Ministership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti 2015 to 2018. He was associated with Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party and served as district chief of the party for district Rajouri 2003 to 2013. He resigned from the PDP and became one of the founding member of Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party. Presently Vice President of the party. Ali has been Honoured with Best Legislature 2012. As a Cabinet Minister,Ali headed various portfolios. Zulfkar also implemented the national food security act (NFSA) in the state and launched a food for poor scheme (MMSFES).
The 2024 Legislative Assembly elections in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir to elect 90 members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly are expected to be held after the 2024 Indian general election,which is scheduled from 19 April to 1 June 2024. Legally,the election shall be held no later than 30 September 2024.
