Per Clausen (born 20 February 1955 in Kongsvinger, Norway) is a Danish politician from the Red-Green Alliance. Since 2013, he has served on the Aalborg Municipal council in Aalborg Municipality, where, in 2022, he became a deputy mayor for climate and energy.
Between 2005 and 2015, he represented the Red-Green Alliance in the Folketing.
In March 2023, he provided himself as the lead candidate for the Red-Green Alliance to the 2024 European Parliament election, and it was later announced that he would become the lead candidate. [1] [2]
Per Clausen is the son of painter Frede Aage Clausen and laundry owner Grethe Clausen. [3] He was born in Norway, but grew up in multiple places located in Jutland, and ended in Aalborg and took Danish exam in 1972 from Poul Paghsgades Skole.
Through time, he's had multiple occupations. Examples being, factory worker, car mechanic, laundry ower, teacher and trade unionist. [4] [5]
Since his youth, Per Clausen has been polticially active in the trade unions and on the Danish Left-wing.
He began in the 1970s as a member of the Danish General Workers' Union-factory youth, and has since taken on multiple position of trust in the trade unions. In 1994, he was elected as trade unionist for Dansk Magisterforening. [6]
In 2005, he was elected to the Folketing for the Red-Green Alliance, in the North Jutland County constituency. Here he represented the party until 2015, where he was barred from another parliament term due to the rotation princip of the Red-Green Alliance. [7] [8] In the period of his parliamentary career, he was among other things, the party's EU-spokesperon, environmental-spokesperson, health-spokesperson and group-leader for the parliamentary group. [9] Between 2014 and 2015 he was a member of the parliaments bureau. Per Clausen has been described as being a diligent MP and has on multiple occasions, earned the title as the most pertinacious question-raiser of the § 20-spørgsmål i n the Folketing. In 2008, LGBT Danmark named him politician of the year, citing his work to secure rights for gay, bisexual. and trans people. [10] [11]
Per Clausen resied in Aalborg, where he, since 2013, has been a member of the Aalborg Municipal council. [12] Per Clausen was the lead candidate for the Red-Green Alliance in the municipal council election in 2013, and was at the time a part of winning the party's three seats in a city, where the party had never won representation before. During the 2021 election, he received 2,312 personal votes, which was the fifth highest. He was also elected in 2017. [13] og 2021. The Folketing, also known as the Parliament of Denmark or the Danish Parliament in English, is the unicameral national legislature (parliament) of the Kingdom of Denmark — Denmark proper together with the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Established in 1849, the Folketing was the lower house of the bicameral parliament called the Rigsdag until 1953; the upper house was the Landsting. It meets in Christiansborg Palace, on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen.
The Red–Green Alliance or Unity List is an eco-socialist political party in Denmark. It was founded in 1989 with the merger of three Marxist parties and it is the most left-wing party in the Folketing, where it advocates for the expansion of the welfare state and social justice as well as the socialist transformation of Denmark and the entire globe. During the 2021 Copenhagen City Council election the party placed first, with 24.6% of the votes. The party is also active in various trade unions within Denmark.
Bertel Geismar Haarder is a Danish writer, teacher and politician, who was a member of the Folketing for the Venstre political party. He has served as minister several times, including Minister of Education from 1982 to 1993 and again in 2005 to 2010, and most recently as Minister for Culture and Ecclesiastical Affairs from 2015 to 2016 in the L. L. Rasmussen II Cabinet. He is a former member of European Parliament, serving from 1994 to 2001. He has also served as president of the Nordic Council on two occasions, first in 2011 and latest from 2020 to 2021.
Kristian Thulesen Dahl is a Danish director and former politician who served as Leader of the Danish People's Party (DPP) from 2012 to 2022. He was a Member of the Folketing (MF) from September 1994 until July 2022, first representing Fremskridtspartiet until 6 October 1995 and then the DPP from that date until 29 June 2022, when he became an independent.
Søren Pape Poulsen was a Danish politician who served as a member of the Folketing for the Danish Conservative Party and its leader from 2014 until his death. He was previously Mayor of Viborg Municipality from 2010 to 2014 and Justice Minister of Denmark from 2016 to 2019.
General elections were held in the Kingdom of Denmark on 5 June 2019 to elect all 179 members of the Folketing; 175 in Denmark proper, two in the Faroe Islands and two in Greenland. The elections took place ten days after the European Parliament elections.
The Alternative is a green and pro-European political party in Denmark. The party was publicly launched on 27 November 2013 by former Minister of Culture Uffe Elbæk and Josephine Fock; Elbæk had been a parliamentarian for the Social Liberal Party. Elbæk was the leader of the party until February 2020, where he stepped down and was succeeded by Fock. Currently the party is led by Franciska Rosenkilde. It collaborates with DiEM25 at the European level. The Alternative regards itself as a political movement and a cultural voice, as well as a political party.
General elections were held in the Kingdom of Denmark on 1 November 2022, except in the Faroe Islands, where they were held on 31 October as 1 November was a national day of mourning for victims at sea. Of the 179 members of the Folketing, 175 were elected in Denmark proper, two in the Faroes and two in Greenland. The elections were called on 5 October following an ultimatum to the government by the Social Liberals due to the outcome of a report on the 2020 Danish mink cull by the Mink Commission, which was critical of the government. Voter turnout was 84% in Denmark, 48% in Greenland, and 71% in the Faroes, with a combined turnout of 84% for the realm as a whole.
Alex Dominique Kristensen Vanopslagh is a Danish politician. He is a member of the Folketing, and party leader of the Liberal Alliance. He is a former chairman of its youth wing, Liberal Alliance Youth.
Pernille Skipper is a Danish former politician. She was a member of the Folketing from 2011 to 2022, and was political spokesperson for the Red–Green Alliance from 2016 to 2021, succeeding Johanne Schmidt-Nielsen. In 2021 she was replaced by Mai Villadsen.
Rasmus Prehn is a Danish politician who has been a member of the Folketing since the 2005 Danish general election. He served as Minister for Development Cooperation from 2019 to 2020, and as Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries from 2020 to 2022.

Marie Bjerre is a Danish politician, who is a member of the Folketing for the Venstre political party. She was elected into the Folketing in the 2019 Danish general election, and re-elected in 2022.
Mette Thiesen is a Danish politician and former schoolteacher who has been a member of the Folketing since June 2019, at first representing the Nye Borgerlige political party, but from November 2022 being an independent, and from February 2023 representing the Danish People's Party.
Lars Boje Mathiesenda is a Danish politician who has been an independent member of the Danish Parliament, the Folketing, since March 2023. Søren Egge Rasmussen is a Danish politician, serving as a member of the Folketing for the Red–Green Alliance political party. He was elected at the 2015 Danish general election, and again re-elected in the 2022 Danish general election.
Pelle Dragsted is a Danish author and politician who has been a member of the Folketing for the Red-Green Alliance since the 2022 Danish general election. He formerly served as member of the Folketing in 2015 to 2019.
