The Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Organization of American States is a diplomatic post of the Holy See. First appointed in 1978, the position had been given to the Vatican's diplomat to the United States until 2012. In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed the Holy See's Permanent Observer to the United Nations in New York to the post. Pope Francis and Secretary of State Pietro Parolin maintained that new pattern in 2014, and then in 2019 appointed the first observer to hold only that position.
The Apostolic Nunciature to the United States, sometimes referred to as the Vatican Embassy, is the diplomatic mission of the Holy See to the United States. It is located at 3339 Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C., in the Embassy Row neighborhood. Since 2016, the papal nuncio has been Cardinal Christophe Pierre.

He then worked in the Roman Curia from 1998 to 2002 as President of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See.

This diplomatic mission does not have the status of Permanent Representative because the Holy See is not a UN member. Bernardito Cleopas Auza is a Filipino prelate of the Catholic Church. He is the current Apostolic Nuncio to Spain, appointed to that position on 1 October 2019. He was the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations from 17 July 2010 until 1 July 2014. He previously served as Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq and Jordan, and to Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan from 30 April 2016 until 1 October 2022.
