Central Papua, officially the Central Papua Province is an Indonesian province located in the central region of Western New Guinea. It was formally established on 11 November 2022 from the former eight western regencies of the province of Papua. The February 2004 Nabire earthquakes began on February 6 at 06.05 WIT in Papua, Indonesia. The first of three large earthquakes measured 7.0 on the moment magnitude scale (Mw ). It was followed a few days later by two strong shocks, measuring Mw  7.3 and 6.7, respectively. The earthquakes were felt at Nabire with a maximum Mercalli intensity of VI (Strong). At least 37 people were killed and were 682 injured, and over 2,600 buildings were damaged or destroyed.

The 2023 Liga 3 Papua is the sixth edition organized by Asprov PSSI Papua.
