Peter Francis Farrell (born June 12,1983) is an American politician. From 2012 to 2018 he served in the Virginia House of Delegates,representing the 56th district,made up of Louisa County and parts of Goochland,Henrico,and Spotsylvania Counties,to the north and west of Richmond. [1] [2]
Farrell served on the House committees on Education,Finance and Commerce and Labor. [3]
Farrell is a great-grandson of Thomas Farrell of the Manhattan Project,and a son of Thomas Farrell,CEO of Dominion Resources, [4] a board member for Altria,and co-producer and co-writer of Field of Lost Shoes . [5] He attended the Collegiate School [6] and received a B.A. degree in government from the University of Virginia in 2006. He worked as a legislative assistant for Virginia Beach-based state Senator Ken Stolle. [1] [2]
Farrell later joined Recast Energy,a Richmond-based company,founded in October 2010,that converts biomass to steam for industrial use. Farrell works [update] in business development. [1] [2] [7]
On August 12,2011,the 56th district incumbent,Republican Bill Janis,announced that he was running as an independent candidate for Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney,challenging the Republican nominee,Matthew Geary. [8] Farrell became the Republican nominee in the 56th,succeeding Janis. He was unopposed in the general election. The Virginia House of Delegates election of 2017 was held on Tuesday, November 7. All 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates were contested. The Republican Party held a 66–34 majority in the House of Delegates before the election but lost 15 seats to the Democratic Party, resulting in the Republicans holding a 50–49 advantage. After a recount, the result of the election in the 94th district was called a tie. The candidate to hold the seat was determined by random drawing on January 4, 2018, which resulted in the Republicans holding a 51–49 majority.

Herring initially planned to run for governor, but decided to run for re-election. Herring faced Republican nominee Jason Miyares in the general election. Herring conceded defeat at 5:02 PM EST the following day, November 3. Miyares became the first Cuban-American and Hispanic to be elected to statewide office in Virginia. Miyares was later sworn in on January 15, 2022.
The 2011 Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney election was held on November 8, 2015, to elect the Commonwealth's Attorney of Henrico County, Virginia, concurrently with elections to the Senate of Virginia and Virginia House of Delegates. Incumbent Republican Commonwealth's Attorney Wade A. Kizer announced that he would be retiring from the position, making it an open contest. Republicans Matthew Geary and Bill Janis and Democrat Shannon Taylor all ran for Attorney, with Taylor beating both in the general election.

Incumbent Democratic Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor won reelection to a second term against Republican nominee Tony Pham by a wide margin.
The 2019 Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney election was held on November 5, 2019, to elect the Commonwealth's Attorney of Henrico County, Virginia, concurrently with elections to the Senate of Virginia and Virginia House of Delegates. Incumbent Democratic Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor won reelection to a second term against Republican nominee Owen Conway, a former worker for the office, by a wide margin.
The 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, concurrently with elections for the Senate of Virginia, to elect members of the 163rd Virginia General Assembly. All 100 delegates are elected to two-year terms single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections are to be held June 20, 2023.
