Peter John Hughes OBE (born 14 September 1953) [1] is a British diplomat. From 2013 to 2018 he was the British High Commissioner to Belize. [1] [2]
Hughes joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1976 and served in Islamabad, Rome, Warsaw, Sydney, Castries, Colombo and Kabul before being appointed Ambassador to North Korea in 2008 where he served until 2011. In 2009 he wrote a blog entry [3] that noted the fair weather and festive mood in Pyongyang during that year's parliamentary election, prompting accusations in the British and South Korean press that he was an apologist for the North Korean government. Hughes was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2012 Birthday Honours. [6]

Sir Simon Lawrance Gass is a British civil servant. He chaired the Joint Intelligence Committee from 2019 to 2023 and served as the British Prime Minister's representative on Afghanistan from 2021 to 2022 concurrently. Between 2018 and 2019, he was the Commandant of the Royal College of Defence Studies. During his diplomatic career, he served as British ambassador to Greece and to Iran. In May 2023, it was announced he was stepping down as Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee and succeeded by Madeleine Alessandri.
David Arthur Slinn is a retired British diplomat. He was Chargé d'Affaires to Albania in 1995 to 1996. Slinn was the first British ambassador to North Korea. Slinn was head of the Helmand Provincial Reconstruction Team between 2007-08. He was appointed ambassador to Croatia in 2012 and retired from the Diplomatic Service in 2015. He also held posts in Geneva, Ulan Bator, Pretoria, Tirana, Belgrade, and Pristina.
Nigel Marcus Baker is a British diplomat, who was formerly Ambassador to Bolivia and Ambassador to the Holy See. He was Head of the Latin America department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2016 to 2019, and in August 2020 took up his appointment as British Ambassador to Slovakia.
Paul Thomas Arkwright is a British diplomat who was High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2015–18.

He also served as the British ambassador to Israel, June 2019 to June 2023, replacing David Quarrey. In June 2023, he was appointed the British High Commissioner to Kenya, replacing Jane Marriott.
