Veendam is a town and municipality with a population of 27,752 in the province of Groningen in the northeast of the Netherlands. Veendam was established in 1648 as a peat colony by Adriaan Geerts Wildervanck.
Aruba sent a delegation to compete at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece from 13 to 29 August 2004. The delegation's participation in the Athens Olympics marked Aruba's fifth appearance at the Summer Olympics since the Dutch colony's debut at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. Four athletes competed across three sports. None of the track or swimming athletes advanced past the first round in their events, and as of Athens, no Arubans had medaled in any events. His father Edo was also a field hockey international for Holland.
Diederik David van Weel is a former Dutch field hockey player, who played 61 international matches for the Netherlands, in which he didn't score a single goal. The defender made his debut for the Dutch on 17 August 1998 in a match against Argentina. He played in the Dutch League for HC Bloemendaal and Laren, and was a member of the team that won the gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He stopped playing hockey in 2005.
Wouter van Pelt is a former Dutch field hockey player, who played 236 international matches for the Netherlands, in which he scored 21 goals. The defender made his debut for the Dutch on 27 March 1989 in a match against England. He played in the Dutch League for HDM and BH & BC Breda. Van Pelt was a member of the Dutch national team that won the golden medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Four years later, at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, the Dutch once again won the title, with Van Pelt on board. He stopped playing hockey at top level in 2005.

John Peter De Windt Jr., known as J. P. De Windt (1787–1870) created the Long Wharf, later known as the Long Dock, in Beacon, New York in 1815 and owned an enormous estate in Dutchess County, which was eventually broken up into the streets of Fishkill-on-the-Hudson, or present day Beacon. He was a manufacturer and investor in steamboats and railroads during the immense boom in transportation in the mid 1800s along the Hudson which linked New York City to the rest of the country. He was married to the grand-daughter of John and Abigail Adams.
