The Australia women's national field hockey team are, as of January 2019, ranked third in the world. Having played their first game in 1914, and their first Olympic game in 1984, they are one of Australia's most successful sporting teams, boasting three Olympic gold medals, two World Cup gold medals and four Commonwealth Games gold medals. The Hockeyroos have been crowned Australia's Team of the Year five times and were unanimously awarded Best Australian Team at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

Injury suspended her career until a return to international hockey in late 2004 when she was named in the Champions Trophy side after completing the 2004 NHL as one of the top goal scorers. Diana Elizabeth Weavers is a field hockey defender from New Zealand, who finished sixth with her national team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She also competed with The Black Sticks at the 1998 and the 2002 Commonwealth Games, and at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

Katherine Jill Trolove is a former field hockey player from New Zealand, who finished in eight position with the National Women's Field Hockey Team at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. She was also a member of the squad that won the bronze medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. Two years later, at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Trolove ended up sixth with The Black Sticks.
The Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre, also known as the State Hockey Centre of New South Wales is a multi-use stadium in Sydney, Australia. It was built in 1998 as part of Sydney Olympic Park sporting complex, having held matches for the field hockey events at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Its current capacity is 8,000 people, with seating capacity for 4,000. For the Sydney Olympic Games capacity was boosted to 15,000 through the use of temporary stands.
Cindy Werley is a former Olympic field hockey forward from the United States, who made her international debut for the Women's National Team in 1994. She was a member of the American team that competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. She won a bronze medal at the 1995 Pan American Games.
Nadine Ernsting-Krienke is a field hockey striker from Germany, who won the gold medal with the women's national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. She is one of the most decorated field hockey players in Germany, having played in four consecutive Summer Olympic Games, starting in 1992. She retired from international play in 2009, after having represented Germany 360 times, scoring 137 goals.

The striker was named WorldHockey Women's Young Player of the Year by the International Hockey Federation twice.

She was a member of the Australia women's national field hockey team, best known as the Hockeyroos, that won a gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. As well as being an Olympic gold medallist, she won a Commonwealth Games gold medal, two World Cup gold medals, four Champions Trophy gold medals and was named in the Australian Women’s ‘Team of the Century’.
