Philip Manyim (born 24 March 1978) is a former Kenyan steeplechaser turned marathon runner. During his career, Manyim was a pacesetter in steeplechase and competed in IAAF Grand Prix and IAAF Super Grand Prix events held from 2002 to 2004. Manyim left steeplechase for marathon running in 2004 and won the 2005 Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:07:41. His other World Marathon Majors performances was an eighteenth place finish at the 2007 Boston Marathon and fourth place at the 2007 Berlin event. Manyim ended his running career at a 2010 marathon in Ljubljana, where he came in eight place.
Manyim was born on 24 March 1978 in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. [1]
Manyim started his sports career participating in road races primarily throughout Italy, Kenya and the United States from 1999 to 2004. [2] During this time period, Manyim was a pacesetter and competitor in steeplechase. [3] As a steeplechaser, Manyim participated in multiple IAAF Grand Prix and IAAF Super Grand Prix events between 2002 and 2004. His best Grand Prix performance was a fifth place finish at Zagreb in 2003. Manyim also ran in IAAF Golden League meets while racing in the Grand Prixs, but did not finish any of his races. [4]
After a 2004 steeplechase race in Switzerland, Manyim decided to switch from steeplechase to marathon. [5] In a 2007 interview with Runners World , Manyim said he went to marathon running because "a pacer does nothing but make a name for other people". [3] After running in marathons held in Amsterdam, Rome, and Prague, Manyim won the 2005 Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:07:41. In other World Marathon Majors, Manyim was eighteenth at the 2007 Boston Marathon and fourth at the 2007 Berlin event. Manyim's final race was at a 2010 marathon in Ljubljana where he had an eighth place finish. [2]

Eliud Kipchoge is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in the marathon and formerly specialized at the 5000 metre distance. Regarded as the greatest marathon runner of all time, he is the 2016 and 2020 Olympic marathon champion and the world record holder in the marathon with a time of 2:01:09 set at the 2022 Berlin Marathon. He has run four of the six fastest marathons in history.
Paul Kipsiele Koech is a Kenyan runner who specializes in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He won the 2004 Olympic bronze medal in this event. His personal best of 7:54.31 minutes is the third fastest of all time.
Günther Weidlinger is an Austrian long-distance runner who is a former 3000 metres steeplechase specialist but now competes in the marathon.
Michael Kipkorir Kipyego is a Kenyan runner who competes in marathon races. He was initially a specialist in the 3000 metres steeplechase and was the 2002 World Junior Champion in the event. He represented Kenya in the steeplechase at the World Championships in 2003 and was runner-up at the 2008 African Championships. He set a personal best of 8:08.48 hours in 2009.
Paul Malakwen Kosgei is a Kenyan long-distance and marathon runner. He first came to prominence in athletics by taking the World Junior Record of 3000m steeple in 1997, and later with consecutive medals at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships from 1998 to 2000.
Rita Jeptoo is a Kenyan marathon runner. Originally a winner of the Boston Marathon three times, including setting the then course record at 2:18:57 in 2014, she had also won marathons in Chicago, Stockholm, and Milan, as well as having represented Kenya in the event at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. She was the bronze medalist at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships.

Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad is a retired French professional middle-distance runner of Algerian descent who mainly competed in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He is the only man to win three Olympic steeplechase medals, claiming silver in 2008 and 2012 and bronze in 2016. He also won two bronze medals at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 2011 and 2013. Mekhissi-Benabbad earned titles at five consecutive editions of the European Athletics Championships between 2010 and 2018.

Matebo has a personal best of 2:05:16 hours for the 42.195 km distance, which he set as a runner-up at the 2011 Frankfurt Marathon. He was also second at the Boston Marathon in 2012. In 2018, he captured gold medals at the African Championships and Commonwealth Games. He is a four-time Diamond League winner.

Linus Kipwambok Chumba is a Kenyan long-distance runner who formerly competing in the 3000 metres steeplechase and currently competes in half marathons and marathons. He has a personal best of 8:11.98 minutes for the steeplechase, set in 2005. He represented Kenya at the 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and shared in the team gold medals.
Benedict Muli Kimondiu is a Kenyan former marathon runner. Kimondiu began running marathons as a pacesetter when he finished the 2000 New York City Marathon in sixteenth place. The following year, Kimondiu became the first ever pacesetter to win at the Chicago Marathon. In further marathons, Kimondiu competed at the Boston Marathon in 2002 and resumed his Chicago appearances in 2002 and 2003. After a third place finish at the 2004 Tokyo International Marathon, Kimondiu did not finish the New York City Marathon that year. A few years later, Kimondiu ran at the 2006 Tokyo International Marathon and 2007 Tokyo Marathon, but did not complete either marathon. Kimondiu's last marathon was at the 2012 Hong Kong Marathon, where he came in fifteenth place.
