Photo London is an annual photography event held at Somerset House in London in May. [1] [2] Galleries [3] and publishers show and sell work by photographers, and there are curated exhibitions and talks. [4] Awards are also given. [4]

It was established in 2004 and ran until 2006 at the Royal Academy of Arts, then at Old Billingsgate in 2007, then stopped. [5] It was relaunched in 2015 and has since been held at Somerset House. [1]

Details

Photo London was established in 2004 by Daniel Newburg and held at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2004, 2005 and 2006. [5] [6] [7] In November 2006 it was purchased by Reed Exhibitions (who also owned Paris Photo). [5] [6] [7] Reed ran it, with Newburg acting as creative director, in 2007 at Old Billingsgate and then stopped. [5] [6] [7] Photo London was re-launched in 2015 by a company Candlestar, led by Michael Benson and Fariba Farshad. [1] [7] [8] [9] It took place from 9 to 12 September 2021. [10] [11]

Fred Ritchin is dean emeritus of the International Center of Photography (ICP) School. Ritchin was also the founding director of the Documentary Photography and Photojournalism Program at the School of ICP and was appointed dean in 2014. Prior to joining ICP, Ritchin was professor of photography and imaging at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, and co-director of the NYU/Magnum Foundation Photography and Human Rights educational program. Edward Burtynsky is a Canadian photographer and artist known for his large format photographs of industrial landscapes. His works depict locations from around the world that represent the increasing development of industrialization and its impacts on nature and the human existence. It is most often connected to the philosophical concept of the sublime, a trait established by the grand scale of the work he creates, though they are equally disturbing in the way they reveal the context of rapid industrialization.

Contact Press Images is an international and independent photojournalism agency founded in 1976 in New York City by French-British journalist and editor Robert Pledge and American photojournalist David Burnett. The Prix Pictet is an international award in photography. It was founded in 2008 by the Geneva-based Pictet Group with the mandate to use the power of photography to communicate messages about sustainability to a global audience. Its goal is to uncover photography of the highest order, applied to current social and environmental challenges. The prize is judged by an independent jury and carries a prize of CHF 100,000. The co-founders of the Prix Pictet were Stephen Barber, along with three independent consultants and advisers brought together by Barber - Leo Johnson, the sustainability expert; Professor Francis Hodgson, photography critic and academic; and Michael Benson, founder of the art consultancy Candlestar.

The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize is awarded annually by the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation and the Photographers' Gallery to a photographer who has made the most significant contribution to the photographic medium in Europe during the past year.

The World Photography Organisation is a British company best known for its annual Sony World Photography Awards. The company was founded in 2007 by Scott Gray, and is now a subsidiary of Gray's art events company Creo.

C/O Berlin is a private exhibition space for photography and visual media in Berlin. It is located in Amerika Haus Berlin by Zoologischer Garten station, Charlottenburg, where it has more than 2,500 square metres of space. C/O Berlin presents works by national and international artists, supports emerging talents, and organizes educational events on visual media and art. It was founded in 2000 by Stephan Erfurt, Marc Naroska and Ingo Pott and originally located in the old Royal Post Office (Postfuhramt). C/O Berlin is supported by a non-profit foundation under the direction of Stephan Erfurt. The deputy chairman is Dr. Andreas Behr.

Alys Tomlinson is a British photographer. She has published the books Following Broadway (2013), Ex-Voto (2019), Lost Summer (2020) and Gli Isolani (2022). For Ex-Voto she won the Photographer of the Year award at the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards. Portraits from Lost Summer won First prize in the 2020 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize.
