Pierre Esber is an Australian politician. He has been Labor Councillor on Parramatta City Council since 1999,and Lord Mayor since September 2023 where he replaced popular then-Lord Mayor Sameer Pandey. [1]
In 2013 Esber was one of 5000 people chosen randomly from around the world to be invited to attend Dallas,Texas to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. [2]
Esber was first elected to Parramatta Council in September 1999 representing Lachlan Macquarie Ward. Esber served continuously until May 2016 when Parramatta council was amalgamated and its existing wards were abolished. Esber was then re-elected to council representing Dundas Ward at the subsequent 2017 New South Wales local elections. He is currently the longest serving councillor on Parramatta Council,and the one of only two sitting councillors who also served pre-amalgamation.
In 2011 Esber was pre-selected as Labor's candidate to contest the seat of Parramatta at the NSW State Election. Parramatta was considered a very safe Labor seat with a 13.1% majority having been held by three Labor members consecutively since 1991. Esber was unsuccessful,suffering a 25.8% swing to Liberal candidate Geoff Lee,turning the very safe Labor seat into a safe Liberal one.
In 2023 Esber became Lord Mayor of Parramatta Council following a leadership spill which saw the then-Lord Mayor Sameer Pandey replaced. In the subsequent council vote,Esber prevailed 9 votes to 6. [1] The move was criticised as a "senseless act with no political outcome that is beneficial to the Labor Party". [1]
Clover Margaret Moore is an Australian politician. She has been the Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney since 2004 and is currently the longest serving Lord Mayor of Sydney since the creation of the City of Sydney in 1842.
