Dato' Pirdaus Ismail (11 September 1965) is a Malaysian politician. He was the Imam of the National Mosque of Malaysia [ need quotation to verify ] and Special Officer former Minister of Home Affairs Hishammuddin Hussein. [1]

Background

Pirdaus received his Diploma in Islamic studies from the Institute of Tahfiz Al-Quran Wal Qiraat, Pusat Islam Malaysia (now Darul Quran) in 1988. Subsequently, he studied at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt and graduated with a Bachelor degree with Honours in Islamic studies in 1994.

Career

He began his career in the Islamic Services as a Lecturer in Islamic Studies at Darul Quran, Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) for a period of one year from 1994 to 1995. Thereafter, from 1995 onward, he went on to serve as the officer at JAKIM. Until 2004, he was the Imam in the National Mosque, Kuala Lumpur.[ need quotation to verify ] In 2005, he was the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs of WWE Sdn. Bhd.

Political activity

In 2004, he contested in the 11th General Election as the BN parliamentary candidate in Permatang Pauh. He was defeated by Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the PKR candidate. He also was an Youth Executive Councillor of UMNO. In 2005, he was elected as the Deputy Chairman, UMNO of Permatang Pauh Parliamentary Constituency in Bukit Mertajam.

In 2008, he contested again in the 12th General Election as the BN parliamentary candidate in the same parliamentary constituency. He was defeated again by the same PKR candidate. In the Permatang Pauh by-election 2008, he was not chosen to contest.

Nurul Izzah binti Anwar is a Malaysian public servant with an extensive history of dedicated service as a legislator, activist, advocate and champion of social change. She also served as Co-chairperson of the Secretariat of the Special Advisory Body to the Minister of Finance (ACFIN) serving Tan Sri Hassan Marican since February 2023. She served as Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister on Economics and Finance briefly before Encik Nurhisham bin Hussein, former EPF Chief Economist, assumed the position in the PMO. She was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Permatang Pauh from May 2018 to November 2022 and for Lembah Pantai from March 2008 to May 2018. She is a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and formerly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) opposition coalitions. She has also served as the Vice President of PKR from November 2010 to her resignation in December 2018 and again since July 2022. A by-election was held for the Dewan Rakyat parliamentary seat of Permatang Pauh on 26 August 2008 with nomination day on 16 August 2008. The seat of Permatang Pauh in the Dewan Rakyat, fell vacant after the resignation of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, on 31 July 2008. Wan Azizah was the Leader of the Opposition as well as the President of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), a component party of the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. The by-election was contested by the PR candidate former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. This election has been dubbed "the mother of all by-elections" by the media due to the potentially significant implication of the election as well as the high profile of Anwar Ibrahim.

This is a list of the members of the Dewan Rakyat of the 13th Parliament of Malaysia. The opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat that contested the general elections in 2013 was dissolved after series of disagreements between two main parties, Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). A new opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan was formed by the DAP, People's Justice Party (PKR) and newly formed party National Trust Party (AMANAH), consisting of ex-PAS members. Several ex-UMNO members have also formed their own party Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU) and have signed an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan to contest the future general election and ensure straight fights against Barisan Nasional. Mazlan bin Ismail was the Chief Operating Officer for Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). He retired from Vice President, Telekom Malaysia (TM) and took part in Malaysian politics and first appointed by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia to be an advisor to MCMC with specialised duties, before appointed to his current post. He is known best to run in the 13th general election in Malaysia in Permatang Pauh, a parliament in the state of Penang. In the 2013 general election, he lost to PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim with a majority of 11,721 votes. Although defeated, he received an increase of nearly 10,000 votes (64%) to his party from the previous election held in 2008. Now, with his long experience in the telecommunications industry, especially during the tenure as Vice President National Network Operations (VPNNO) of TM, his current main task is to provide advice and guidance to the Malaysians Communications and Multimedia Commission in the planning and implementation of the government's Digital Nation Development, with the target in the suburbs, a key objective in achieving Vision 2020.

A by-election was held for the Dewan Rakyat seat of Permatang Pauh on 7 May following the nomination day on 25 April 2015. The seat fell vacant after member of parliament Anwar Ibrahim was disqualified from holding his seat after being found guilty of sodomy in a highly controversial trial. Anwar Ibrahim was a member of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat and leader of the opposition alliance Pakatan Rakyat. In the 2013 general election, Anwar won the seat with a majority of 11,721 votes beating Mazlan Ismail of Barisan Nasional.

Tan Sri Abdul Hamid bin Othman was a minister in the Prime Minister's Department. He was appointed in 2001 as a Religious Advisor to the then Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and later as Religious Advisor to Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi from 2005 to 2009. Several parties recognized him as UMNO scholar and made a winding-up speech during the UMNO General Assembly.

Abdul Hamid bin Ngah @ Zainal Abidin is the former Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) from 16 July 2004 to 2009. He was a member of Parit Buntar Parliament and became Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
