Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre

PICT (formerly known as Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre) was founded in 1996 by Andrew S. Paul and Stephanie Riso in Pittsburgh. PICT has emerged as a significant contributor to the cultural fabric of Pittsburgh with almost 2,000 season subscribers, and annual attendance of over 23,000. A constituent member of Theatre Communications Group (TCG), PICT has garnered a yearly position on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's list of the city's Top 50 Cultural Forces. The organization's productions are consistently ranked among the year's best by the critics of the Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and Pittsburgh City Paper. PICT was named Theatre of the Year-in both 2004 [1] and 2006 [2] by the critics of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Following the 2007 season, feature actor David Whalen was named the Pittsburgh Post Gazette's 24th theatrical Performer of the Year. [3] As of October 15, 2014, PICT has produced 89 main stage shows, including five world premieres, seven U.S. premieres, thirty-eight Pittsburgh premieres and four festivals.

In 2013 Alan Stanford was named the Artistic and Executive Director. PICT performs in the Stephen Foster Memorial building - a City of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania state Historical Landmark located on Forbes Avenue on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.

The building houses the Stephen Foster Memorial Museum, the Center for American Music, as well as two theatres: the 478-seat Charity Randall Theatre and 151-seat Henry Heymann Theatre.

In 2015 PICT introduced its "Downtown Series" presenting two productions at the Peirce Studio in the Trust Arts Education Building.

August Wilson American playwright (1945–2005)

August Wilson was an American playwright. He has been referred to as the "theater's poet of Black America". He is best known for a series of ten plays, collectively called The Pittsburgh Cycle, which chronicle the experiences and heritage of the African-American community in the 20th century. Plays in the series include Fences (1987) and The Piano Lesson (1990), both of which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, as well as Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (1984) and Joe Turner's Come and Gone (1988). He also co-wrote the stage adaptation of Tuesdays with Morrie with author Mitch Albom, and Three Viewings, a comedy consisting of three monologues - each of which takes place in a funeral home. He wrote the screenplay Casanova for director Lasse Hallström, as well as the screenplay for The Duchess (2008). He has also written for the Peter Falk TV series Columbo and E! Entertainment Television.

<i>Jitney</i> (play)

Jitney is a play by August Wilson. The eighth in his "Pittsburgh Cycle", this play is set in a worn-down gypsy cab station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in early autumn 1977. The play premiered on Broadway in 2017.

Christopher Chapman Rouse III was an American composer. Though he wrote for various ensembles, Rouse is primarily known for his orchestral compositions, including a Requiem, a dozen concertos, and six symphonies. His work received numerous accolades, including the Kennedy Center Friedheim Award, the Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition, and the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He also served as the composer-in-residence for the New York Philharmonic from 2012 to 2015.

Christopher Rawson, is an American writer, university teacher and theater critic.

Edmund Lyndeck was an American actor and musical theatre performer. He is best known for originating the roles of Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd and Cinderella’s father in Into The Woods. His other Broadway credits include 1776, Mrs. Warren's Profession, A Doll's Life, and Merlin, and he also played Sir Danvers Carew in the 1990 world premiere of Jekyll & Hyde.

Elephant Theatre Company

The Elephant Theatre Company was a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Theatre company based in Hollywood. The company "built a reputation for championing new American plays" and ceased operation in September 2015.

University of Pittsburgh Stages, previously known as the University of Pittsburgh Repertory Theatre or Pitt Rep, is the flagship production company for the University of Pittsburgh Department of Theatre Arts. Pitt Stages features students on stage with professional actors and teaching artists staging public performances of classic masterpieces, contemporary productions, and student-directed labs. Pittsburgh Playhouse

Pittsburgh Playhouse is Point Park University's performing arts center located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bald Theatre Company

Bald Theatre Company is a Pittsburgh-based theatre company. Established in 2010 by Justin Zeno, the theatre company's mission, "is to explore and expose stereotypes, focus on the individual, and to embrace those qualities which make us unique and valuable. the BALD theatre company is a celebration of our differences beyond stigma without fear of substance or content while connecting to our collective human experience."

Caravan Theatre of Pittsburgh is a theatre company located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Established in 2007 by John Gresh, the company has produced contemporary plays, such as 800 Words: The Transmigration of Philip K. Dick, Savage in Limbo and Risk Everything. The company took a hiatus in 2008 due to the recession but returned in 2012 with a well-received production about the life of Philip K. Dick, featuring Dana Hardy reprising a role she originated when she and playwright Victoria Stewart were both in graduate school. Caravan Theatre of Pittsburgh has held performances in both the Penn Avenue and Liberty Avenue performance spaces of Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company.

Iosef Yusupov

Iosef Yusupov is an American set designer who was one of the scenic designers for the George Tsypin creative team of the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Sochi, Russia. Currently living in the United States, he has designed many shows in New York City and has worked motion pictures as a scenic artist. His sets that he builds create an illusion of 3-dimensions, with 2-dimensional material.
