Drowned in Sound described Playgirl as a "hymn to small town claustrophobia and dissolute femininity in a style of knowing poetic allure" which "warms the cockles of the heart of the true dissenter." [2] It ranked at number 25 on Select Magazine's Best Singles of 2000. [3]

Ladytron is an English electronic band formed in Liverpool in 1999. The group consists of Scottish lead singer Helen Marnie, Mira Aroyo, and Daniel Hunt. Reuben Wu (synthesizers) was a member from 1999 until 2023. They have released seven studio albums: 604 (2001), Light & Magic (2002), Witching Hour (2005), Velocifero (2008), Gravity the Seducer (2011), Ladytron (2019) and Time's Arrow (2023). They also issued the live album Live at London Astoria 16.07.08 in 2009 and the compilation album Best of 00–10 in 2011. They have produced remixes for artists such as Dave Gahan, Erasure, Goldfrapp, Apoptygma Berzerk, Placebo, Blondie, Gang of Four, Christina Aguilera, Nine Inch Nails, Bloc Party, Kings of Convenience, Soulwax and Róisín Murphy.
Caroline Hervé, known professionally as Kittin, is a French electronic music producer, DJ, singer, and songwriter. Since rising to prominence in 1998 for her singles "1982" and "Frank Sinatra" with The Hacker, she has worked with other musicians such as Chicks on Speed, Felix da Housecat and Golden Boy. She released her debut solo album I Com in 2004, a second, BatBox, in 2008, and a third, Calling from the Stars, in 2013. She achieved international popularity with the singles "Rippin Kittin" and "Silver Screen Shower Scene".

It is a concept album based on the story of the character Devin Dazzle and his involvement with a group of women called the Neon Fever. The album is Felix's highest-charting album to date. The album features the work of many collaborators including LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, Dave the Hustler, Tommie Sunshine, GoodandEvil, XLover, Tyrone "Visionary" Palmer and Kate Wax. "Everyone Is Someone in L.A." was featured in Activision's 2005 Tony Hawk skateboarding video game Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, whereas the Soulwax remix of "Rocket Ride" has been featured in EA's Need for Speed: Underground 2. The album cover was designed by new media artist Kenneth Tin-Kin Hung.
