The Ranji Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India between multiple teams representing regional and state cricket associations. Board of Control for Cricket in India founded it in 1935, since then it is annually organised across various grounds and stadiums in India.
The North Zone cricket team is a first-class cricket team that represents northern India in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. It is a composite team of players from six first-class Indian teams from northern India competing in the Ranji Trophy: Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Services. North Zone has the strongest track record of all the zones in the Duleep Trophy, as they have won the Trophy 17 times, with the next best team, West Zone having won 16 times. The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team is a cricket team based in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, run by JKCA. It is in the Elite Group C of the Ranji Trophy. Its main home ground is the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, and it also plays at Gandhi Memorial Science College Ground in Jammu.

The following season a further first-class match was held when Himachal Pradesh played Hyderabad in the 2002/03 Ranji Trophy. No further major matches have been staged there.

The ground first held a first-class match in November 1986 when Himachal Pradesh played Jammu and Kashmir in the 1986/87 Ranji Trophy. The ground has held ten further first-class matches, the last of which came in the 2001/02 Ranji Trophy between Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The first List A match held on the ground came in the 1987/88 Deodhar Trophy when the North Zone played the South Zone. Himachal Pradesh first played a List A match there in 1994/95 Ranji Trophy one-day competition when Punjab were the visiting team. Between the 1994/95 season and the 1999/00 season, Himachal Pradesh played five List A fixtures there. The last game in that format to be held there came in the 2001/02 Deodhar Trophy when East Zone played the South Zone. It has 800m track.

The first List A match held on the ground came in the 1989/90 Deodhar Trophy when the Central Zone played the West Zone. Himachal Pradesh first played a List A match there in 1993/94 Ranji Trophy one-day competition when the Services were the visiting team. Between the 1993/94 season and the 2010/11 season, Himachal Pradesh have played nineteen List A fixtures there.
Jawaharlal Navoday Vidhyalay Stadium is a cricket ground near Una, Himachal Pradesh, India. The first recorded match held on the ground came in January 1999 when Bengal Under-16s played Madhya Pradesh Under-16s. The ground later held a List A match in 1997 when Himachal Pradesh played the Services in the 1999/00 Ranji Trophy one-day competition. Following this match, a first-class match was played there between the two sides in the Ranji Trophy. Nearly ten years later the ground held five List A matches in the 2008/09 Vijay Hazare Trophy. During the competition the Services cricket team heavily criticised the grounds playing conditions, citing the outfield as bumpy and potentially dangerous. They also criticised its general facilities, including a lack of changing facilities, with both teams having to change in a partitioned tent.
Dhruv Mahender Pandove was an Indian first-class cricketer who played for Punjab. He made his first-class debut at the age of 13 and was considered to be an "exceptionally gifted batsman" and a "prodigy". He became the youngest Indian and one of the youngest players in the world to score a century in first-class cricket, with his 137 against Jammu and Kashmir in 1988 coming at the age of 14 years and 294 days. He was the youngest player to reach the 1000-run mark in Ranji Trophy, reaching the milestone at the age of 17 years and 341 days.
The 2016–17 Ranji Trophy is the 83rd season of the Ranji Trophy, the first-class cricket tournament in India. It is being contested by 28 teams divided into three groups. Groups A and B comprise nine teams and Group C comprises ten teams. Hyderabad and Haryana qualified for the knockout stage of the tournament.

He plays as an opening batsman for Jammu and Kashmir State team across all formats at national level. Rajeev Nayyar is a former Indian first-class cricketer who played for Himachal Pradesh. In 1999, he set the record for the longest first-class innings of all time by batting for 1,015 minutes in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir.
The 2018–19 Ranji Trophy was the 85th season of the Ranji Trophy, the first-class cricket tournament that took place in India. It was contested by 37 teams, divided into four groups, with ten teams in Group C. The group stage ran from 1 November 2018 to 10 January 2019. The top two teams from Group C progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition.
The 2021–22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was the fourteenth season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a Twenty20 cricket tournament played in India. It was contested by 38 teams, divided into six groups, with six teams in Group C. The tournament was announced by BCCI on 3 July 2021.
