Police Story is a 1996 Indian Kannada-language action film directed by Thriller Manju from a story written by S. S. David. It stars an ensemble cast featuring P. Sai Kumar, Shobaraj, Satya Prakash, Avinash, Girija Lokesh, Rockline Venkatesh, Sudheer Babu and Raymond D'Souza. The film was simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil under the same name. It was dubbed in Hindi as Agni IPS.
Police Story emerged as a commercial success and became a cult classic, which lead to sequels Police Story 2 (2007) and Police Story 3 (2011). [1] [2]
Agni is a short-tempered cop who uses unconventional methods of punishing the gangsters, which is later criticised by the ministers. This leads Agni to resign himself from the job, but later rejoins after being coaxed by his elder brother. A Mumbai-based CBI officer has been appointed to handle a case of a gangster named "Black Tiger". The senior official reveals about a deceased gangster named Shobraj, who was responsible for the death of all the police officials after his wife was molested and killed by his nemesis.
Sathya and Dharma are two gangsters who terrorises Bangalore with their unlawful activities. Being a gangster in college, Dharma throws a girl off a building after she rejects his love. The student, who was in love with that girl, turns insane and becomes a witness, but is later killed by Sathya. With this, Agni clashes with Sathya and Dharma. The CBI officer gets killed by a corrupt minister, who is Sathya's right-hand man. Agni's brother also dies while trashing Black Tiger's henchman Black Cobra. It is later revealed that Shobraj is actually alive and is none other than Black Tiger.
The corrupt Inspector kills another Inspector to destroy evidence behind the CBI officer's death, who is killed after getting hit by a truck. In order to seek justice, Agni brings a mute youngster as a witness to this case, but Sathya shoots him in the court premises. Agni shoots Sathya and points his gun towards Dharma, who accepts his wrongdoings out of fear. It is revealed that the judge had killed the mute youngster in the hospital and the photos before the court hearing, where his photos were captured by a journalist. Towards the end, Agni arrests Black Tiger and his efforts have been appreciated by the CM.
Saikumar who gained recognition as a star with Lockup Death (1994) acted in this film under the direction of Thriller Manju, a stunt choreographer who made his directorial debut with this film. The Kannada and its dubbed Telugu version were successful and gained a breakthrough for Saikumar and it led to him being typecast in similar roles. [3] [4]
A sequel titled Police Story 2 saw Saikumar reprising his role which was released in 2007. [5] The third unrelated film was released in 2011.

Sudeepa makes a cameo appearance. The music was composed by noted music composer Sagar S. The film made its way to the Guinness World Records and the Limca Book of Records by shooting a normal two-and-a-half-hour movie in just 12 hours with the first copy of the film ready in 10 days after the shooting. It is produced under the banner of Aditya Creations. Shivananda Madashetty is the producer of this film. However, the team confirmed that the movie is not a sequel of the previous films Police Story Part 1 and 2.
Thirupathi Narasimhalunaidu Venkatesh, better known by his stage name Rockline Venkatesh, is an Indian actor and film producer known for his works in Kannada, Tamil and Hindi cinemas. He is the founder and owner of the production and distribution company, Rockline Entertainments which has directed over five films as of 2012. In 2015 he co-produced Bajrangi Bhaijaan which earned the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at the 63rd National Film Awards.

Mailasandra Hanumappa Manjunatha Reddy, known popularly as Thriller Manju, is an Indian stunt coordinator, filmmaker, actor known for his work in Kannada cinema. He has occasionally also served as screenwriter and choreographer. Apart from Kannada, Manju has also worked in a handful Telugu- and Tamil-language films. He ventured into film direction with the film, Police Story (1996).

Rama Rama Re... is a 2016 Indian Kannada film written and directed by D Satya Prakash. It is a story of a convict on death row, who escapes from prison and accidentally ends up traveling with a retired veteran of a Police Department, who is called upon by the authorities to teach the process of executing a convict to the new staff. Rama Rama Re... was released on 21 October 2016. The film was remade in Telugu in 2018 as Aatagadharaa Siva by Rockline Venkatesh. The film is currently being remade in Marathi.
