The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame is a hall of fame that honors the greatest players, coaches, and contributors of Polynesian descent in the sport of American football. [1] [2] It was established in 2013 by former National Football League (NFL) players Jesse Sapolu and Maa Tanuvasa. Board members include Troy Polamalu, Via Sikahema, June Jones, and Reno Mahe.
The hall is located at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu, Hawaii. [1]

In 2017, the organization began to back a high school football all-star game known as the Polynesian Bowl, held at Aloha Stadium. [13] [14] [15] The game was moved to Kūnuiākea Stadium in 2022 on a three-year deal. [16]

The East–West Shrine Bowl is a postseason college football all-star game that has been played annually since 1925; through January 2019, it was known as the East–West Shrine Game. The game is sponsored by the fraternal group Shriners International, and the net proceeds are earmarked to some of the Shrine's charitable works, most notably the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Pālolo is the name of a valley, stream, and residential neighborhood in Honolulu, Hawaii, the United States. The area lies approximately four miles east and inland from downtown Honolulu, less than a mile from Diamond Head. Like many of Hawaii's neighborhoods, Pālolo consists of an entire valley. The mauka (mountain-side) of the valley is agricultural in nature. The makai (ocean-side) of the valley ends approximately at Waiʻalae Avenue and is densely settled, mostly with single-family homes.
Kenneth Va'a Niumatalolo is an American college football coach and former player who is the head coach of San Jose State. He was the head coach of the Naval Academy from 2007 to 2022, accumulating the most wins in program history. Niumatalolo played college football at the University of Hawaii. As a quarterback he led Hawaii to their first postseason bowl game in 1989. Niumatalolo is the second person of Polynesian descent to be named head coach of an NCAA Division I FBS college football program and the first ethnic Samoan collegiate head coach on any level. Niumatalolo was inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame on January 23, 2014.
Thomas Kaauwai Kaulukukui was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Hawai'i in 1941, as co-head coach with Eugene Gill, and from 1946 to 1950. From 1956 to 1959 he served as head coach of 'Iolani preparatory school in Honolulu.
The San Jose State Spartans football team represents San José State University in NCAA Division I FBS college football as a member of the Mountain West Conference. Since its first regular season in 1898, the team has produced over 90 All-America team members, won 18 conference championships, and sent 139 players to the NFL, including Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees Bill Walsh and Dick Vermeil. The Spartans head coach is Ken Niumatalolo.
Henry Montague Norman Nuuanu Gooding Field was an American football tackle who played professionally for the Chicago Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL) from 1934 to 1936. In later life, he was elected and served in the Hawaii State Senate from 1963 to 1964. He was inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
Tuanigamanuolepola Donny Tagovailoa is an American professional football quarterback for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide and was named the Offensive MVP of the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship during his freshman season. As a sophomore, Tagovailoa won the Maxwell and Walter Camp awards en route to an appearance in the 2019 National Championship.

The 2021 Hula Bowl was a post-season college football all-star game played on January 31, 2021, with kickoff at 4:30 p.m. HST, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. The game was the last of the 2020–21 bowl games and, while not restricted to FBS players, the final game of the 2020 FBS football season. Television coverage was provided by CBS Sports Network. The game was played without fans in attendance, as Aloha Stadium was "deemed unsafe to hold crowds" in December 2020.

The Polynesian Football Player of the Year Award is given annually by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame to the most outstanding player of Polynesian descent at the high school, collegiate and professional levels of American football. The award was first established in 2014 and initially only recognized the best Polynesian college football player. The award was expanded in 2015 to recognize Polynesian professional football players and was expanded yet again in 2017 to recognize Polynesian high school football players.
Taliese Fuaga is an American professional football offensive tackle for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Oregon State Beavers, receiving All-American honors in 2023. Fuaga was selected by the Saints in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft.
