Pontus Karl Johan Lidberg is a Swedish born choreographer, dancer and filmmaker. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
Born in Stockholm, Sweden to psychiatrist Lars Lidberg and psychologist Yvonne Lidberg, [1] [6] Lidberg began classical ballet training at the age of four. [1] [7] He has a M.F.A. in contemporary performative arts from the University of Gothenburg, Academy of Music and Drama, Sweden. [1]
Lidberg has created works for dance companies including Acosta Danza, [8] Balletboyz, [9] Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, [10] [11] Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, [12] Miami City Ballet, [13] Morphoses, [14] New York City Ballet, [15] [16] Paris Opera Ballet, [17] [18] Royal Danish Ballet, [16] Royal Swedish Ballet, [19] Semperoper Ballett and Wiener Staatsballett, [20] as well as for his own company Pontus Lidberg Dance. [21] Pontus Lidberg Dance has been presented at venues such as The Joyce Theater, [22] [21] The Havana International Ballet Festival [23] The National Arts Center of Canada, [24] La Biennale di Venezia [25] [26] and Festival Oriente-Occidente in Rovereto, Italy. In 2016 he was commissioned by Library of Congress to create a new work for the Martha Graham Dance Company, as the centerpiece for a celebration marking the Library’s 90th anniversary as a presenter of the performing arts. [28]
Lidberg has been Artist-in-Residence at Harvard, [29] Headlands Center for the Arts, [30] Baryshnikov Arts Center, [31] a choreography fellow at New York City Center, [32] and a fellow at the Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University. [33] He received a 2019 John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in Choreography. [34]
He was the artistic director of Danish Dance Theatre between 2018-2022. [35] [36] His choreography “Roaring Twenties” opened the 2022 Montpellier Danse Festival. [37]
In 2007, Lidberg directed The Rain, a film featuring Alicia Vikander that takes place in a ceaseless rainfall. The New York Times wrote: "Memorably The Rain illustrates what filmed dance can say that staged dance cannot". [21] [38]
His subsequent film Labyrinth Within, [14] featured Lidberg himself, former New York City Ballet principal dancer Wendy Whelan and Giovanni Bucchieri. It won the 2012 Jury Prize for Best Picture at the Dance on Camera Festival in New York City. [39] [40] During his 2012 tenure as resident artistic director of Morphoses, Lidberg developed the film into an hourlong work of live performance and film titled Within (Labyrinth Within), premiering at the 2012 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. His third film, Written on Water, premiered in 2021 at Le Festival International du Film sur l'Art in Montréal. Filming began in Paris in 2019 after a successful Kickstarter fundraising of £30,835. [41] Starring Aurélie Dupont, Alexander Jones and Lidberg himself, it is a 81-minute feature film about an artist whose happy and comfortable married life is upended when she unexpectedly falls in love with someone else. Written on Water aims to convey the drama of desire and the turmoil of the protagonist’s inner life through dance, evocative cinematography, and music. [42]
Julio Adrián Lojo Bocca is an Argentine ballet dancer. Bocca spent twenty years as a principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre. From 2010 to 2018, he served as artistic director of the National Ballet of Uruguay, administered by SODRE, the country's broadcasting and cultural authority.
Juan Ignacio Duato Bárcia, also known as Nacho Duato is a Spanish modern ballet dancer and choreographer. Since 2014, Duato has been artistic director of the Berlin State Ballet. He is openly gay.
Wendy Whelan is an American ballet dancer. She was principal dancer with the New York City Ballet and performed with the company for 30 years, and toured in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Whelan has also been an influential guest artist with Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company. In 2019, Whelan was named Associate Artistic Director of New York City Ballet.
Danish Dance Theatre Danish Dance Theatre is the largest modern dance company in Denmark. The company was founded in 1981 by Randi Patterson, an English/Norwegian choreographer and innovator of modern dance. Patterson was succeeded by American Warren Spears, Dane Anette Abildgaard and British Tim Rushton. Swedish choreographer and filmmaker Pontus Lidberg is artistic director from April 2018. Danish Dance Company is based in Copenhagen.
Wayne McGregor, CBE is a British choreographer and director who has won multiple awards. He is the Artistic Director of Studio Wayne McGregor and Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet. McGregor was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) 2011 for Services to Dance.

In 2009 he was appointed the artist in residence at the American Ballet Theatre, and as artist in residence at the New York City Ballet from August 2023.
Armand Amar is a French composer, who grew up in Morocco. He won the 2008 César Award for Best Music for Le Concert.
Peeping Tom is a Belgian theatre company founded by Argentinian choreographer Gabriela Carrizo and French choreographer Franck Chartier in 2000. The pair met while working at several other Belgian companies, including Les Ballets C de la B. In 1999, they created a first location project that was set in a trailer home, titled Caravana, with mezzo-soprano Eurudike De Beul. This location project was followed by the film Une Vie Inutile (2000).

Giovanni Bucchieri is a dancer and musician from Linköping, Sweden. He established himself early as a prolific dancer, specialised in breakdance and in Street dance. At the age of 15 he moved to Stockholm. Together with his longtime companion Aleksander Maksic he traveled to New York at the age of 16. There they eagerly took part in the frantic club life of New York. It was here that Bucchieri's love for Vogue was discovered, at various ballroom dances.
Karl Wilhelm Alexander Ekman is a Swedish ballet dancer and choreographer. His choreographies have been performed by Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, the Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Semperoper Ballett, the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Norwegian National Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet, the São Paulo City Ballet, the Sydney Dance Company, and the Wiener Staatsballett. For some of them he has designed sets and costumes or composed the music.

María José Ribot, known as La Ribot, is a dancer, choreographer and visual artist. Her projects are based on movement, the body and her own experiences in dance, but she also uses other practices, systems and materials that her concepts generate. She is the main interpreter of her works while she also often creates the costumes, objects and scenery. With more than 45 works under her belt, including choreographies, installations and videos, La Ribot continues to find interest in living art, in the human body and its capacity for poetic, subversive and political expression. She has received the 2000 National Dance Award and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts 2016 – both granted by the Ministry of Culture of Spain – and the Culture Award of the Community of Madrid in Visual Arts 2018. In September 2019, she received the Swiss Grand Award for Dance granted by the Swiss Confederation in recognition of her artistic work.
Tânia Carvalho is a Portuguese artist with a career spanning over 20 years. Best known as a choreographer, she also works in other artistic fields, such as music, drawing and film.
