Pooley Island is an island in the North Coast region of British Columbia, Canada. To its west and southwest is Roderick Island, to its east Mathieson Channel. James Johnstone, one of George Vancouver's lieutenants during his 1791-95 expedition, first charted its north and east coasts in 1793. [1] The island was later named after Charles Edward Pooley. [2]
Pooley Island is in the traditional territory of the Kitasoo/Xai'Xais First Nation, for whom it holds important cultural and fisheries values. The Pooley Conservancy, comprising over 3000 hectares on the northeast part of the island, was created in 2006 and is co-managed by BC Parks and the Kitasoo/Xai'Xais First Nation. The Conservancy includes James Bay and Windy Bay, both of which have long been used by boaters as anchorages. [3]
Klemtu is an unincorporated community on Swindle Island in the coastal fjords of British Columbia, Canada. It is located on Kitasoo Indian Reserve No. 1.
Princess Royal Island is the largest island on the North Coast of British Columbia, Canada. It is located amongst the isolated inlets and islands east of Hecate Strait on the British Columbia Coast. At 2,251 square kilometres (869 sq mi), it is the fourth largest island in British Columbia. It was named in 1788 by Captain Charles Duncan, after his ship Princess Royal.

Gil Island is an island on the North Coast of British Columbia, Canada, located on the west side of Whale Channel in the entrance to Douglas Channel, one of the main coastal inlets, on the route of the Inside Passage between Pitt Island and Princess Royal Island. It is 26 km (16 mi) long, with a width ranging from 6 to 13 km, and an area of 231 km2. The only named summit on the mountainous island is Mount Gil, which faces the opening of Douglas Channel.
The Kitasoo are one of the 14 tribes of the Tsimshian people in Canada, who inhabit, along with the Xai'xais, the village of Klemtu, British Columbia. The name Kitasoo derives from the Tsimshian name Gidestsu, from git- and disdzuu, which refers to a large, tiered house-depression. The Kitasoo, along with the Gitga'ata Tsimshians at Hartley Bay, B.C., are often classed as "Southern Tsimshian," their traditional language being the southern dialect of the Tsimshian language. Their band government is the Kitasoo/Xaixais First Nation, a member government of the Wuikinuxv-Kitasoo-Nuxalk Tribal Council.
The Gwa'sala-Nakwaxda'xw Nations are an amalgamation of two Kwakwaka'wakw peoples in a band government based on northern Vancouver Island in British Columbia, whose main reserve community is near the town of Port Hardy in the Queen Charlotte Strait region of the Central Coast region of British Columbia, Canada. In the 1960s the Gwa'sala (Gwaʼsa̱la), the 'Nakwaxda'xw (ʼNakʼwaxdaʼx̱w) and the Kwakiutl peoples were amalgamated. Later the Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw Nations and the Kwakiutl First Nation separated into the two groups that are recognized by the federal government. Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw Nations were forcibly relocated from their homelands to a location near Port Hardy.
The Lytton First Nation, a First Nations band government, has its headquarters at Lytton in the Fraser Canyon region of the Canadian province of British Columbia. While it is the largest of all Nlaka'pamux bands, unlike all other governments of the Nlaka'pamux (Thompson) people, it is not a member of any of the three Nlaka'pamux tribal councils, which are the Nicola Tribal Association, the Fraser Canyon Indian Administration and the Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council.
The Wuikinuxv Nation, also known as the Oweekeno Nation, is a First Nations band government whose traditional territory is the shores of Rivers Inlet and Owikeno Lake in the Central Coast region of the Canadian province of British Columbia, in the area south of Bella Bella and north of Queen Charlotte Strait. The Wuikinuxv people a.k.a. the Oweekeno people reside in the area of Rivers Inlet and Owikeno Lake, primarily at a village on the Wannock River. Substantial numbers of Wuikinuxv also reside away from the traditional territory in Port Hardy on Vancouver Island and in larger BC communities such as Campbell River, Vancouver and Victoria. Approximately 80 people reside at the village while overall membership was 283 in 2006, 194 of whom lived off-reserve.
Campania Island is an island on the coast of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is located south of Prince Rupert, east across Hecate Strait from Haida Gwaii. To its west, across Estevan Sound, is the Estevan Group archipelago. Banks Island lies to the northwest, across Nepean Sound; and Pitt Island to the north, across Otter Channel. To the northeast, across Squally Channel, is Gil Island, and to the east is Princess Royal Island, across Campania Sound. To the south of Campania Island is Caamaño Sound, beyond which is Aristazabal Island.
The Kitasoo/Xaixais First Nation, also known as the Kitasoo/Xaixais Nation, is the band government of the First Nations people of Klemtu, British Columbia, Canada. The band comprises two ethnic groups who share an ancient alliance, the Kitasoo, a Tsimshian group, and the Xai'xais, a north-wakashan speaking group. The government is a member of the Oweekeno-Kitasoo-Nuxalk Tribal Council and a member of the Tsimshian First Nations treaty council.

James Johnstone, one of George Vancouver's lieutenants during his 1791-95 expedition, first charted its west and east coasts in 1793. It was named by Captain Daniel Pender during his 1867-70 survey of the region.

Cunningham Island is an island in the North Coast region of the Canadian province of British Columbia. To its west is Chatfield Island, to its south Denny Island, and to its east the mainland. It was named by Captain Daniel Pender of the Beaver about 1866, after Thomas Cunningham, an early British Columbia settler. Its north and east coasts were first charted by George Vancouver in 1793.
Chatfield Island is an island in the North Coast region of the Canadian province of British Columbia. To its north and west is Yeo Island, and to its east, Cunningham Island. It was named in 1876 by the Hydrographic Office of the British Admiralty after Captain Alfred John Chatfield, RN (1831-1910). Its north coast was charted in 1793 by George Vancouver, and its west coast by one of his lieutenants, James Johnstone, later that year.
Mussel Inlet is in inlet in the North Coast region of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is a northeast extension of Sheep Passage, and part of the Fiordland Conservancy.
Bishop Bay – Monkey Beach Conservancy is a conservancy in British Columbia, Canada. It is 3,374 hectares in size and is accessible only by floatplane or boat. It features boat anchorage and tent platforms as well as a hotspring fed bath house. The temperature of the hotsprings is approximately 41.3 degrees Celsius at the source and about 38.8 degrees Celsius in the bath house. It is located 25 km east of Hartley Bay and 75 km south of Kitimat. The conservancy was established in 2006, with Monkey Beach being added to the conservancy in 2007.
