Poreotics, also known as Poreotix, is an American all-male dance crew from Westminster, California. The crew was formed in 2007 by Matthew "Dumbo" Nguyen and specializes in popping, choreography and robotics, hence the name Po-reo-tics. They have performed in numerous hip hop dance competitions, most notably coming in 1st place in the USA division of the 2009 and 2010 Hip-Hop Internationals [1] and in other dance programs and competitions including the Vibe 15, FUSION X, Body Rock, and World Of Dance. On April 8, 2010, they were crowned the champions on the fifth season of America's Best Dance Crew. [2] On January 14, 2011, they were crowned as Team of the Year at the World of Dance awards.

They are known for their shades, dark glasses which they wear for all of their performances. Jet Li stated that they wear the shades because it gives them character. All of them are of Southeast Asian heritage. Matthew "Dumbo" Nguyen, Can Trong Nguyen, and Charles Viet Nguyen are Vietnamese while Andrew-Chad "Chad" Fausto Mayate, Lawrence "Law" Bravo Devera, and Justin "Jet Li" Valles are Filipino.

History

They are a group of young Asian males with their signature image of sunglasses. They are worn for every performance on the show and eventually signify who they are. They stand out further with the unique highlighted hair. Poreotics was formed in Westminster, California by Matthew "Dumbo" Nguyen, Can "Candy" Nguyen, and Charles Viet Nguyen in December 2007. Supposedly, Dumbo met Can at a movie theater and battled his brother. Can " Candy" Nguyen attended Garden Grove High School and Matthew Nguyen attended Rancho Alamitos High School. [3] Subsequently, the group expanded with new members Lawrence "Law" Devera and Justin "Jet-Li" Valles. In 2009, the team chose Andrew "Chad" Fausto Mayate to substitute for Justin "Jet-Li" Valles in the 2009 Hip Hop Dance Championships. The team won first place and Andrew-Chad Fausto Mayate became a permanent member. [4] Five out of the six crew members (Dumbo, Can, Charles, Law, and Chad) were also members of PAC Modern Dance Troupe. In 2008, both Matthew (Dumbo) and Lawrence (Law) competed on Season 3 of America's Got Talent with the crew Sick Step.

America's Best Dance Crew

On February 11, 2010, Poreotics competed on the fifth season of America's Best Dance Crew. The crew danced to several songs including those of Taylor Swift and Beyonce. Through their creative ideas and synchronized choreography, they managed to utilize the stage to its fullest and become extremely popular with the audience. They brought comedy mixed with popping to America's Best Dance Crew. The live season finale aired on April 8, 2010, and Poreotix was crowned the champions of season 5 and also perform in the finale of season 7 alongside season 7 champions Elektrolytes.

Tic Tic Tour

Poreotics traveled to Australia to hold their first ever official tour, called the "Tic Tic Tour". The tour consisted of 3 actual shows which took place in three major cities (Melbourne, Sydney & Adelaide). The tour also consisted of four dance workshops, performances by local Australian dance crews, and a meeting with the fans. The full tour ran from September 30 to October 10.

In August 2011, Poreotics came back to Australia and held the 2nd tic tic tour called 'Tic Tic 2 tour' like in the first tic tic they visited many major cities Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and for the first time Brisbane and Perth. Joining the Poreotics will be the dance crew “Yomama Crew”,“The ArchiTEKS,” "Just Kidding Films" and many other local dance crews. Joining these dance crews will be singing acts, “Joseph Vincent” & “JR Aquino" and MyChonny as host.

Miniotics

Poreotics became the first America's Best Dance Crew winners to have created a second sector of their crew after their victory. They held auditions for children ages 16 and under, who if selected would become a part of the first generation Mini-otics (Mini Poreotics). Miniotics is currently Poreotics' Junior Division as well as their only other division of the crew as of now. It is unknown whether Miniotics will perform wherever Poreotics performs, or if the two will perform separately for most of the time. Rehearsals and preparation have reportedly gone underway. They debuted alongside Poreotics at the Vibe 16 dance competition in Irvine, CA, on January 30, 2011. Miniotics later competed at Hip Hop Internationals in Las Vegas, Nevada and placed second in the Junior division representing the United States. Miniotics auditioned in ABDC Season 7 but they did not pass the audition.

Marital status

Law and Chad have also joined the Kinjaz while and they continue to dance with Poreotics.

Appearances

Poreotics continues to dance as a group and teaches various workshops including Urban Dance Camp. Through this, they are not only growing to improve themselves but also help develop the community of dancers.

They were most notably made famous by their many appearances on "Just Kidding Films", "Just Kidding News, "Just Kidding Party" as well as the vlog channels of the members of JK.

Poreotics worked with many other individuals and groups including YouTube stars like Kevjumba and dancers like I.aM.mE crew. They continued to gain more fame on YouTube after winning and performing at several different competitions like the HIP-HOP Internationals and World of Dance.

Created by Arnel Calvario in 1992, Kaba Modern began as dancers that performed the hip-hop portion or the "Modern Suite" of Kababayan's annual Pilipino Cultural Night (PCN) at UCI. Since then, Kaba Modern has entered multinational competitions and gained recognition in the media. For instance, a few Kaba Modern members helped choreograph the "dance battle" scene in The Debut in 1997 while three members were shown onscreen during the Making Of featurette of the DVD.

The Jabbawockeez is an American hip-hop dance crew that rose to prominence as the winner of the first season of America's Best Dance Crew in 2008. Established in 2003 in San Diego, California when dancers Kevin "KB" Brewer and Joe Larot put together an innovative dance crew. They participated in dance competitions with the idea of striking a balance between dancing to the music, and dancing as an artistic expression.

Super CR3W is a male assemblage of hip-hop dancers originating from Las Vegas, Nevada. The group won the second season Americas Best Dance Crew in the finals. Contrary to popular belief, Super CR3W was formed long before their appearance on Americas's Best Dance Crew, specifically in 2000. They wanted to bring the dance style, "Breakdancing/B-Boying" to the world.

The third season of America's Best Dance Crew premiered on January 15, 2009. The season was once again hosted by Mario Lopez and featured Layla Kayleigh as the backstage correspondent. Lil Mama, JC Chasez, and Shane Sparks returned as the judging panel. This was the first season without a special casting episode. In the live finale, which aired on March 5, 2009, Quest Crew was declared the winner.

Quest Crew is an American hip-hop dance crew from Los Angeles, California who were declared winners of the third season of America's Best Dance Crew. They made their first few appearances individually on shows like So You Think You Can Dance and at events such as Kollaboration 8 and World of Dance. They helped with the choreography for well-known duo LMFAO and have previously toured with them as well. On August 29, 2015, Quest Crew was declared all-star champions of Season 8 of America's Best Dance Crew (ABDC) receiving $100,000 and the ABDC trophy again. This is the crew's second time being declared champion of MTV's hit show.

SoReal Cru is a hip-hop dance crew from Houston, Texas who gained fame as the runner-up on the second season of America's Best Dance Crew (ABDC). Before ABDC, they won first place at the World of Dance competition in Pomona in 2008. After the second season of America's Best Dance Crew was over, they returned to MTV for a two-part ABDC special, Battle of the VMA's. In the spin-off, popular crews from seasons one and two competed for an opportunity to win $25,000 for charity and to present the 2008 VMA for Best Dancing in a Video. Alumni crews BreakSk8, Fanny Pak, Kaba Modern, Status Quo, and SoReal Cru participated in the event. SoReal Cru danced to Forever by Chris Brown and made the cut in the preliminary rounds while BreakSk8 and Status Quo were eliminated. After the public voted, SoReal Cru lost to Fanny Pak and Kaba Modern for having the fewest votes. Fanny Pak is a ten-member contemporary, hip-hop and jazz-trained dance crew from Los Angeles, California that gained popularity after appearing on the second season of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew (ABDC). Often while performing, the crew wears bright clothes and bold patterns reminiscent of the 1980s as well as fanny packs, which is where their crew name originated. In addition, all of the members were born in the 1980s. The crew returned to ABDC on the seventh season, placing fifth in the competition.

We Are Heroes is an all female popping dance crew best known for being the first all-female crew to win America's Best Dance Crew with their title in Season 4. The winning prize amount was $100,000 in cash as well as ABDC's Golden B-Boy Trophy. Their styles of dance is popping, locking, tutting, and waacking, and also Nichelle and Ali are trained in gymnastics and can do flips.

The fifth season of America's Best Dance Crew premiered on January 28, 2010. Shane Sparks did not return as a judge this season, due to his arrest, and was replaced by Omarion in his only season as a judge. The Elektrolytes are an all-male dance crew formed by a group of local dancers within the area of Gilbert, Arizona in 2006. They are the winner of the seventh season of America's Best Dance Crew. They are also the winners of Hip Hop International USA 2011 Adult Division, and finished seventh in the World Hip Hop International 2011 Finals.

Matthew Vinh Nguyen, better known as Dumbo, is a Vietnamese-American dancer, choreographer and DJ. He is a member of the Asian-American dance crew Poreotics, as well as the DJ duo ARIUS.

America's Best Dance Crew All-Stars: Road to the VMAs was the eighth season of the competitive dance reality television series America's Best Dance Crew. The revival of the series was announced by MTV on January 10, 2015, following the show's cancellation in 2012. The season, which premiered on July 29, 2015, was hosted by television presenter Jason Dundas. The season consisted of six MTV Video Music Award–themed episodes; the winner was crowned in a live episode finale airing before the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. Kookies N Kream is an Australian hip-hop dance crew best known for placing sixth in Season 6 of Australia's Got Talent in 2012. They were initially formed by Jet Valencia in 2009 who recruited Glen Gaspi, Natasha Pinto, Kimberly Grana, Dylan Elul, Gabriel Mendoza, Christopher Patacsil, and Mei Lin. After their first performance at a family Christmas party, Isabel Martinez, Gerina Perez, Patrick Maglaque, Emilynn Villianueva, Emily Lee, Bridgette Badger and Nicholas Giddings joined in 2010. By 2011, four more members had been recruited: Harry Harrop, Robert Mejica, Geraldina Hintko and Charmaine Bohol. Jet Valencia is the crew's dance teacher and director, currently managing the current Kookies N Kream generation with his wife Miriam Yousif.
