Porin Lyseo (Pori Lyceum) is a school in Pori, Finland, consisting of the upper part of primary school and gymnasium. The school was founded in 1879 as the successor of 1640 established Pori Trivial School. [1] The main building was originally constructed 1857 by the design of architect Georg Theodor von Chiewitz. [2] It was expanded in 1895, the wing with art classes and gym was built 1995.

Pori Trivial School partbooks

1725 copied Pori Trivial School partbooks were found in the Pori Lyceum's library in 1908. They include polyphonic church music of the 16th and 17th century by composers like Melchior Vulpius, Gallus Dressler, Jacobus Gallus, Giovanni Giacomo Gastoldi, Hans Leo Hassler and Daniel Friderici. [3] Music of the books was recorded in 2008 by early music group Sonus Borealis. [4]

1918 massacre

During the 1918 Finnish Civil War 11 members of White Guards were shot at the Pori Lyceum schoolyard by Red Guard soldiers. The execution was led by Jan Tuckman who was an Estonian seaman in the Imperial Russian Navy.

University Consortium of Pori is one of six university consortiums of Finland, located in Pori. The mother universities have the responsibility for operations. U20 SM-sarja junior ice hockey league in Finland

The U20 SM-sarja is the premier junior men’s ice hockey league in Finland. It was previously known as the A-nuorten SM-sarja during 1945 to 1991 and the Nuorten SM-liiga during 1991 to 2020. The league was founded by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association in 1945 and a Finnish Champion in men’s under-20 ice hockey has been named annually since the league’s inaugural season – with the exception of the 2019–20 season, in which the playoffs were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eighteen to twenty teams compete in the U20 SM-sarja regular season, which is played in a preliminary ranking stage followed by a divisional or group stage.

Aino Forsten

Aina ”Aino” Aleksandra Forsten, née Rainio, was a Finnish politician and educator. She was a member of the Parliament of Finland for the Social Democratic Party from 1916 to 1918. After the 1918 Finnish Civil War, Forsten fled to the Soviet Union where she was executed during the Great Purge in 1937.
