Port Wakefield Circuit was a motor racing circuit located approximately 1 kilometre (0.62 miles) east of the town of Port Wakefield in South Australia. It was the first purpose built motor racing facility built in Australia after World War II, and only the second in Australian history. The circuit was created out of necessity in 1953 when two years prior the South Australian state government banned motor racing on public roads, a ban that would stay in place until 1985 when it was rescinded to create the Adelaide Street Circuit for use in the Australian Grand Prix which had become a round of the Formula One World Championship. Port Wakefield was a small circuit for its time, in an era of three to four mile circuits, the limitations imposed created a circuit of just 1.3 miles (2.092 kilometres). In 1955 [2] the circuit played host to the Australian Grand Prix where Jack Brabham won his first AGP. Brabham's win in his Cooper T40 Bristol was also the first AGP won by a rear-engined car.
When it came to be South Australia's turn to again host the AGP in 1961, the Port Wakefield Circuit was declared inadequate and the 3.38 km (2.1 mi) Mallala Race Circuit was created. With part of Port Wakefield's facilities used to create Mallala, the circuit faded very quickly back into the scrub, though the outline of the circuit is still visible via Google Maps. [1]
The circuit ran clockwise, and started on the Repco Straight. This was followed by a right hand kink before a sharp left turn leading into the right hand TyreSoles Hairpin, the slowest turn on the circuit. A short run south to the right hand Kallin corner led onto the longest (600 metre) straight on the circuit, Thompson Motors Straight. Dunlop corner (turn 5), and Stonyfell (turn 6), led back onto the Repco Straight. [3] Lap times for the circuit were around the 1 minute mark, with Brabham and Reg Hunt (Maserati A6GCM) sharing the fastest lap of the 1955 AGP at 1:03.0.
The last race meeting, organised by the Austin 7 Club of South Australia, was held on 14 May 1961. [4]
The Albert Park Circuit is a motorsport street circuit around Albert Park Lake, three kilometres south of central Melbourne. It is used annually as a circuit for the traditional Formula One season-opening Australian Grand Prix, the supporting Supercars Championship Melbourne 400 and other associated support races. The circuit has an FIA Grade 1 license. Although the entire track consists of normally public roads, each sector includes medium to high-speed characteristics more commonly associated with dedicated racetracks facilitated by grass and gravel run-off safety zones that are reconstructed annually. However, the circuit also has characteristics of a street circuit's enclosed nature due to concrete barriers annually built along the Lakeside Drive curve, in particular, where run-off is not available due to the proximity of the lake shore.
Sir John Arthur Brabham, was an Australian racing driver who was Formula One World Champion in 1959, 1960, and 1966. He was a founder of the Brabham racing team and race car constructor that bore his name.
The Australian Grand Prix, is an annual motor racing event, which is currently under contract to host Formula One until 2025. It is the second oldest surviving motor racing competition held in Australia, after the Alpine rally of East Gippsland.The Grand Prix has moved frequently with 23 different venues having been used since it was first run at Phillip Island in 1928. The race became part of the Formula One World Championship in 1985. Since 1996 it has been held at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, with the exception of 2020 when the race was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, it was held in Adelaide. It is currently sponsored with naming rights by Swiss watchmaker Rolex.
Brands Hatch Circuit is a motor racing circuit in West Kingsdown, Kent, England, United Kingdom. The 1967 Monaco Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Monaco on May 7, 1967. The 1985 Australian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on a street circuit in the city of Adelaide on 3 November 1985. The Australian Grand Prix was the sixteenth and final race of the 1985 FIA Formula One World Championship. It was the 50th running of the Australian Grand Prix and the first to be held on the streets of Adelaide on a layout specifically designed for the debut of the World Championship in Australia. The race was held over 82 laps of the 3.780 km (2.362 mi) circuit for a total race distance of 310 kilometres. The race was won by Keke Rosberg driving a Williams-Honda; this was the final win by a Finnish driver until Mika Häkkinen won the 1997 European Grand Prix.
The 1990 Australian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 4 November 1990 at Adelaide. It was the sixteenth and final race of the 1990 Formula One World Championship. This was the 500th race to contribute to the World Drivers' Championship since the series had started in 1950. The race was the 55th Australian Grand Prix and the sixth to be held on the Adelaide street circuit, which also made it the sixth AGP to be part of the Formula One World Championship. The race was held over 81 laps of the 3.78 km circuit for a race distance of 306 kilometres.

Mount Panorama Circuit is a motor racing track located in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated on a hill with the dual official names of Mount Panorama and Wahluu and is best known as the home of the Bathurst 1000 motor race held each October, and the Bathurst 12 Hour event held each February. Surfers Paradise International Raceway was a motor racing complex at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The 3.219 kilometres (2.000 mi) long circuit was designed and built by Keith Williams, a motor racing enthusiast who also designed and built the Adelaide International Raceway (AIR) in South Australia in 1972. It was located opposite the Surfers Paradise Ski Gardens at Carrara.
