The Port of Uusikaupunki (also known as Port of Hepokari) is a mixed-use cargo port located in the city of Uusikaupunki, in southwestern Finland, on the eastern shore of the Bothnian Sea. [2]

The port services mostly RoRo traffic, but is also equipped to handle conventional and liquid cargo. [5] [2]

In 2018, the total international cargo throughput of the port was c. 2.5m tons. [4] Approximately 60% of this was exports, making Uusikaupunki the 10th largest export port in Finland. [4] It is the main Finnish export port for cars, thanks to the Valmet Automotive plant located in Uusikaupunki. [6] [7]

The shipping lane into the harbour had previously maximum depth of 10 metres (33 ft), but in 2015 this was deepened to 12.5 metres (41 ft). [3]

The Finnish railway network consists of a total track length of 9,216 km (5,727 mi) of railways built with broad 1,524 mm commonly known as Russian gauge track, of which 3,249 km (2,019 mi) of track is electrified. Passenger trains are operated by the state-owned enterprise VR that runs services on 7,225 km (4,489 mi) of track. These services cover all major cities and many rural areas, though the coverage is less than the coverage provided by the bus services. Most passenger train services originate or terminate at Helsinki Central railway station, and a large proportion of the passenger rail network radiates out of Helsinki. VR also operates freight services. Maintenance and construction of the railway network itself is the responsibility of the Finnish Rail Administration, which is a part of the Finnish Transport Agency. The network consists of six areal centres, that manage the use and maintenance of the routes in co-operation. Cargo yards and large stations may have their own signalling systems.

Uki Workboat Oy is a Finnish shipyard located in Uusikaupunki on the Western coast of Finland. The company specializes in small and medium-sized vessels for professional use, ranging from aluminium-hulled workboats to steel-hulled multipurpose ships and road ferries. The facilities consist of one 100-metre (330 ft) slipway and production halls where boats up to a length of 30 metres (98 ft) can be manufactured indoors.

The Tampere–Pori railway is a railway running between the cities of Tampere and Pori in Finland. The line carries passenger traffic from Tampere to Pori via five railway stations and continues as a freight line to the Port of Pori. HMC <i>Protector</i>

HMC Protector is a Border Force (customs) cutter of the United Kingdom, formerly the Tavi of the Finnish Border Guard. She was built by Uki Workboat in Finland and was acquired by the UK Border Force in 2013. After a period of refit, the vessel was commissioned by the then Home Secretary Theresa May on 17 March 2014. Protector replaced HMC Sentinel, which was retired in 2013.
