Prachi Deshpande (born 14 December 1972) is an Indian historian and Associate Professor in History at Centre for Studies in Social Sciences,Calcutta. [1]
Deshpande completed her undergraduate and post graduate education in History at Fergusson College,Pune and Jawaharlal Nehru University,New Delhi respectively before moving to the United States to pursue her PhD from Tufts University,Medford,MA. [1]
Post her doctoral education at Tufts University,MA in 2002,Deshpande served as an assistant professor at several institutions in the United States including Colorado State University (2002 - 2004),Rutgers University (2004 - 2006),University of California,Berkeley (2006–2010). In 2010,she returned to India to take up her present position at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences in Kolkata. [1] Currently he is Consulting Editor of the Journal of the History of Ideas.
Deshpande has publications both in Marathi and English. Her book,Creative Pasts:Historical Memory and Identity in Western India,1700-1960 (2007) explores modern history writing practices in Marathi-speaking parts of Western India and its impact on shaping Maharashtrian regional identity. [2] Her other notable academic work include 'Scripting the Cultural History of Language:Modi in the Colonial Archive' and 'The writerly self:Literacy,discipline and codes of conduct in early modern western India (2016)'. In 2020,Deshpande received the Infosys Prize for Humanities –History for her extraordinarily nuanced and highly sophisticated treatment of South Asian historiography. [2] [3]
Sudha Murty is an Indian educator,author,and philanthropist. She is married to the co-founder of Infosys,N. R. Narayana Murthy. She is the Founder-Chairperson of the non-profit charitable organization Infosys Foundation. In 2024,Murty was nominated as Member of Parliament,Rajya Sabha on 8 March 2024 for her contribution to social work and education. Murty was awarded the Padma Shri,the fourth highest civilian award in India,for social work by the Government of India in 2006. In 2023,she was awarded the Padma Bhushan,the third highest civilian award in India.
Dipesh Chakrabarty is an Indian historian and leading scholar of postcolonial theory and subaltern studies. He is the Lawrence A. Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor in history at the University of Chicago,and is the recipient of the 2014 Toynbee Prize,named after Professor Arnold J. Toynbee,that recognizes social scientists for significant academic and public contributions to humanity. He is the author of the seminal Provincializing Europe:Postcolonial Thought and Historical Difference (2000).
Natalie Zemon Davis,was an American-Canadian historian of the early modern period. She was the Henry Charles Lea Professor of History at Princeton University. Her work originally focused on France,but it later broadened to include other parts of Europe,North America,and the Caribbean. For example,her book,Trickster Travels (2006),views Italy,Spain,Morocco and other parts of North Africa and West Africa through the lens of Leo Africanus's pioneering geography. Davis' books have all been translated into other languages:twenty-two for The Return of Martin Guerre. She was the second female president of the American Historical Association.

Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee is an Indian-born American economist who is currently the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is co-founder and co-director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL),an MIT based global research center promoting the use of scientific evidence to inform poverty alleviation strategies. In 2019,Banerjee shared the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer,"for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty." He and Esther Duflo are married,and became the sixth married couple to jointly win a Nobel or Nobel Memorial Prize.

Ramshastri is a Marathi film. It was released in 1944. The film is based on the life of Ramshastri Prabhune,the judge who had to decide on Raghoba's culpability in Narayanrao Peshwa's murder. The Leading Role of Ramshastri Prabhune was played by noted actor Gajanan Jagirdar while the role of Anandibai was played noted actress Lalita Pawar. Supporting role was played by actor Anant Marathe.
Sinhagad is a 1933 Marathi historical fact film directed by V. Shantaram. The production company was Prabhat Film Company. The story was based on Hari Narayan Apte's literary classic novel "Gad Ala Pan Sinha Gela". Apte was a famous Marathi novelist of the early twentieth century. The story's screenplay and dialogue were written by Narayan Hari Apte. The cinematographers were V. Avadhoot and Keshavrao Dhaiber. The cast included Master Vinayak,Baburao Pendharkar,Keshavrao Dhaiber,Leela Chandragiri,Shinde,Prabhavati,Budasaheb and Shankarrao Bhosle.
Vithal Sakharam Parasnis (17xx–18xx) was a Sanskrit,Vedic and Persian scholar of the early 19th century Maharashtra. Commonly known as "Aba",he is usually referred to as Aba Parasnis by sources. He was a native of the Satara district of Maharashtra.
Amita Baviskar is a sociologist and Professor of Environmental Studies and Sociology &Anthropology at Ashoka University,India. Previously,she was Professor at the Sociology Unit,Institute of Economic Growth,Delhi,India. She received the 2005 Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for Distinguished Contributions to Development Studies,the 2008 VKRV Rao Prize for Social Science Research and,in 2010,was awarded the Infosys Prize for Social Sciences –Sociology in recognition of her analysis of social and environmental movements in modern India. Shakakarte Chhatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj yanche Saptaprakaranatmak Charitra,better known as Chitnis Bakhar,is a Marathi language biography of Shivaji,the founder of the Maratha Empire. It was written by Malhar Ram Rao Chitnis,whose ancestor Balaji Avaji held the position of Chitnis under Shivaji.
Shri-Shiva-Digvijaya is a Marathi language biography of Shivaji,the founder of the Maratha Empire. The title of the text is also transliterated as Shiva-digvijay and Shiv-digvijay because of schwa deletion.
Bhausahebanchi Bakhar is a narrative of the Battle of Panipat fought in 1761 between the Maratha Empire and the Durrani Empire of Ahmad Shah Abdali. It is written in the Marathi language. According to some historians,the author of the book was anonymous,but other historians have named one Krishnaji Shamrao as the author. Given the vivid descriptions,it is believed that Shamrao may have witnessed the battle. According to K. N. Sane,the angle and favorable remarks towards some characters in the narrative is suggestive of Shamrao being an official of the Scindia.
