Pradeep John, popularly known as the Tamil Nadu Weatherman, [1] [2] is an Indian amateur weather forecasting enthusiast and blogger from Tamil Nadu. [3] [4] His forecasts are more closely followed by and the other people of Chennai than the forecasts published by the India Meteorological Department during the monsoon season. [5] He began blogging about weather and rainfall in 2008. [6] In 2014, he started publishing on social media. His social media popularity increased after his accurate predictions during the 2015 Chennai floods. [7]

Early life

Pradeep John was born in Kanyakumari district in South Tamil Nadu and lives in Chennai. His interest in weather began at age 12. [8] He did his schooling at SBOA Matriculation School and graduated with a B.E. in Computer science and Engineering from Sathyabama University. He also holds an MBA in finance from Madras University. [9] Pradeep John is married to Hannah Shalini; the couple have a daughter. [10]

Career

In 2008, Pradeep John joined India Infolines as a relationship manager. [11] Currently, he works as a Senior manager at Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited (TNUIFSL). [12]

Nakkheeran Gopal is a veteran journalist from Tamil Nadu, India. He is the editor and publisher of the Tamil political investigative journal Nakkheeran. He came to national fame in the 1990s when he interviewed sandalwood and ivory smuggler Veerappan, who was surviving in the forests and committing crimes on the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka border, eluding the police of the two states. Footage from his encounters with Veerappan have been used to create Koose Munisamy Veerappan.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in Tamil Nadu are the most progressive among all states of India. Tamil Nadu was the first state in India to introduce a transgender welfare policy, wherein transgender individuals can access free gender affirmation surgery in government hospitals and various other benefits and rights. The state was also the first to ban forced sex-selective surgeries on intersex infants, and also the first state to include an amendment in its state police guidelines that expects officers to abstain from harassing the LGBTQIA+ community and its members. The state also became the first to ban conversion therapy as well as the first to introduce LGBTQIA+ issues in school curricula.

The Weather Channel has been empirically shown, and has also admitted, to having a wet bias in the case of low probability of precipitation but not at high probabilities of precipitation. Some local television stations have been shown as having significantly greater wet bias, often reporting a 100% probability of precipitation in cases where it rains only 70% of the time.

Karatholuvu Chandrasekaran Sivasankaran, was a Padma Shri recipient Indian mythological artist who primarily contributed to the Indian Language magazine, Chandamama. The 2015 South India floods resulted from heavy rainfall generated by the annual northeast monsoon in November–December 2015. They affected the Coromandel Coast region of the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. More than 500 people were killed and over 1.8 million people were displaced. With estimates of damages and losses ranging from nearly 200 billion (US$2 billion) to over 1 trillion (US$12 billion), the floods were the costliest to have occurred in 2015, and were among the costliest natural disasters of the year.

S R Ramanan is an Indian meteorologist. He worked as the Director of Cyclone warning centre in Chennai, Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He serves on the advisory committee of the centre for climate change and adoption research, Anna University, Chennai. He became popular in social media. Ramanan retired in July 2016 after 36 years as a weatherman. He is most often called by "Rain Man Ramanan", "Word of Rain", "God of Students", "Mazhayin Mahathma", "Kadalora Maavata Kadavul" "90's Kids in Kavalan" and "Minnalin Jannal".
