Praful Kumar Roy was an Indian writer. He was one of the prominent writers of the Nagpuri-language in the modern period. [1] [2] He had a prominent role in publication in the Nagpuri language and in the formation of Nagpuri Bhasha Parishad in 1960. [3] [4]

Life

Early life

He was born on 8 February 1926 in Pahar Bangru village of Bharno in Ranchi district (now Gumla district). His father's name was Pandey Ramkishor Rai and mother's name was Suchitrabala Devi. He studied Bachelor of Commerce. [4]

Career

He started his career as a government employee in Central Coalfields. He was also a writer and singer. His writings are published in various magazines such as Ranchi Times and All India Radio. He wrote Son Jhair (collection of stories), Barkha, Barkha Bund, Nagpuri Kavi, Awsar ni mile bujhu and Kilkila. [5] He had a prominent role in the publication of writings in the Nagpuri language and in the formation of Nagpuri Bhasha Parishad in 1960. [4] [6]

He changed the state name Vananchal to Jharkhand after a debate with Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was the recipient of the Jharkhand Ratna Award for his contribution to the movement for a separate state of Jharkhand.

Madhu Mansoori Hasmukh is an Indian singer, songwriter and activist. He had written and sung several Nagpuri songs for movement of separate state Jharkhand. In 2011,the Government of Jharkhand awarded him Jharkhand Ratna Award. In 2020, he received Padma Shri in field of Arts.

Bisheshwar Prasad Keshari, popularly known as Dr BP Keshari, was an educationist and writer. He was a prominent leader in the movement for a separate state, Jharkhand.

Girdhari Ram Gonjhu was a prominent scholar of the Nagpuri language. He was former chairman of the Tribal-Regional Language Department at Ranchi University in state of Jharkhand. He was awarded Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of literature and education in the Jharkhand posthumously in 2022.

Sahani Upendra Pal Singh was an Indian writer. He was one of the prominent writers in the Nagpuri-language in the modern period. He translated "Ram Charit Manas" in Nagpuri. He wrote around 20 books in nagpuri. He was awarded "Jharkhand Ratna", "Praful Samman", "Seva Ratna" and "BCCL Koyal Bharti Rajbhasha award".

Gurmeet Singh popularly known as Bunty Singh was an actor, dancer, choreographer and cinematographer who mostly worked in Nagpuri and Khortha albums and films. He was born in Jamshedpur. He also participated in dance reality show Boogie Woogie. He had prominent role in establishing distinct identity of Nagpuri album and films.

Nagpuri literature refers to literature in the Nagpuri language, the language of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The earliest literature started in the nagpuri language when the Nagvanshi king and king of Ramgarh Raj started writing poetry in the 17th century. Since then, various literature has been written. Although in the present century, Nagpuri was never considered worthy of literary development. But some dedicated writers have engaged in writing short stories, plays and poetry.

Nagpuri culture refers to the culture of the Nagpuria people, the native speakers of the Nagpuri language, which includes literature, festivals, folk song and dance. It is also referred to as the culture related to the Nagpuri language.

Bhuneshwar Anuj (1936–2021) was an Indian journalist, writer and scholar. He is known for his journalism and scholarly works in the Nagpuri language. He also has a prominent role in the separate state movement of Jharkhand. He was central adviser of Lok Seva Samiti.

Shravan Kumar Goswami was a prominent writer and scholar of Hindi and Nagpuri language. He was professor of Hindi at Ranchi University. He was awarded Radhakrishna Award for his Hindi novel Jangal Tantram.

Shakuntala Mishra is an Indian writer. She is a prominent writer in Nagpuri language. She has written many books in Nagpuri including Nagpuri Sadani Vyakaran a grammar book of Nagpuri, Sadani Nagpuri-Hindi Sabdkosh a dictionary of Nagpuri, Sato Nadi Par a story. Her books are included in university Nagpuri studies. She has been awarded Jharkhand Ratna, Praful Samman, Prernasrot Samman by Doordarshan Ranchi, Katha Samman by Government of Jharkhand, Bidushi Samman by Government of Bihar.

Raman Gupta is an Indian actor, dancer and singer. He works in Nagpuri albums, Nagpuri films and Khortha film. He also acted in many hindi films. He is known for the Nagpuri film Sun Sajna, Deva Rikshawala and Gangwa. He was awarded best regional actor award in Jharkhand International Film Festival Awards in 2018 and Best Evergreen Actor in Jhollywood Award Show in 2022.
