Prakash Kumar Pallathadka is a Professor of Biological Sciences specializing in Plant Development, Tissue Culture, Plant Psychology and Molecular Biology at the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS). [1] [2] [3]

History, education and family

He did his Bachelor of Science from University of Mysore with First Class in 1979 and went on to pursue MSc from Madras University in 1981. As an outgoing graduate at Madras University, he won the first rank with first class. His doctoral research was completed in the year of 1988 and he awarded PhD from the University of Calgary, Canada.

He is the first of six children of Pallathadka Venkatramana Bhat & Taradevi. He hails from Pallathadka, a hamlet in Kasaragod district of the State of Kerala in India. He is a Havyaka Brahmin and belongs to the well-known Pallathadka Family. He is married to Nagaratna Prakash and has two children, one son and one daughter.

Profession

He is currently serving as a Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences in the main campus of NUS. Ever since joining the National University of Singapore, he has held important positions at various levels.

He is also editor of Plant Cell Reports (from Jan 1999) and Plant Biotechnology Reports (from April 2007) (Both Academic Research Journals published by Springer). [4] [5]

Arun Kumar Sharma, popularly known as AKS, was an Indian cytogeneticist, cell biologist, cytochemist and a former Sir Rashbehary Ghose Professor and Head of the Department of Botany at the University of Kolkata, College of Science and Technology. Considered by many as the father of Indian cytology, he headed the Centre for Advanced Study on Cell and Chromosome at the university and is known for his contributions to the studies on the physical and chemical nature of chromosomes. A Jawaharlal Nehru fellow, he is a recipient of several honors including the Om Prakash Bhasin Award and the VASVIK Industrial Research Award. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, in 1967, for his contributions to biological sciences. Tapas Kumar Kundu is an Indian molecular biologist, academician and at present the Director of Central Drug Research Institute, a prestigious research institute of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research at Lucknow. He is the head of the Transcription and Disease Laboratory of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research. He is known for his studies on the regulation of Gene expression and his contributions in cancer diagnostics and the development of new drug candidates for cancer and AIDS therapeutics. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences in 2002.

Pradeep Kumar G. is an Indian cell biologist and a scientist at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology. Known for his studies in the field of disease biology, Dr Kumar is a life member of the Kerala Academy of Sciences. Known for computational studies in the field of Protein Science, Sowdhamini is also associated with the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine as a collaborator and is an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences as well as the Indian National Science Academy. Balaji Prakash is an Indian structural biologist, biochemist and the Associate Dean of Sciences & Professor, Biological and Life Sciences, at the School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University, since July 2020. Prior to this he served as senior principal scientist and the head of the department of molecular nutrition of the Central Food Technological Research Institute. Known for elucidating the structure of a unique GTP-binding protein, Prakash is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India and was a senior research fellow of The Wellcome Trust, UK. Sunil Kumar Manna is an Indian immunologist and the head of the immunology lab of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics. He is known for his studies on cell signaling and apoptosis. The Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India awarded him the National Bioscience Award for Career Development, one of the highest Indian science awards, for his contributions to biosciences, in 2009.

Alok Krishna Sinha is an Indian molecular biologist, biochemist, plant physiologist and a staff scientist Grade VII at the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR). Known for his research on Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade in plants, he is a three-time Alexander von Humboldt Fellow and an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India. Praveen Linga PhD, a chemical engineer, is a professor at the National University of Singapore's Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He is an expert in clathrate hydrates or gas hydrates. He is also the co-founder of NewGen Gas Pte Ltd, a spin-off company that specialises in solidified natural gas (SNG) technology via clathrate hydrates for natural gas storage and transport. He has been interviewed and has provided expert opinion and commentary in the media.
