Pramod Ranjan (born in February 1980) is an Indian author, social worker and journalist. [1] He has worked for Bharatendu Shikhar (Shimla), Gram Parivesh, Dhramshala based Divya Himachal , Punjab Kesari , Dainik Bhaskar , and Amar Ujala . He was managing editor of the Forward Press magazine from 2011 to 2019. [2] [3] [4]

Early life

Pramod Ranjan was born on 22 February 1980 in Patna, Bihar. He attended government primary and secondary schools in Nalanda district. Ranjan did M.Phil. (Social concerns of Phaniswarnath Renu's journalism) and PhD Scholar at JNU, New Delhi where he wrote dissertations titled "Social Concerns of Phaniswarath Renu's Journalism" and "The Question of Liberation from Caste in Novels by Non-Dwij Hindi Authors". He is known for his engaging, writings on society, politics and internal democracy in the media in northern India. [5]

Career in journalism

Literary and cultural contributions

Pramod Ranjan's journalistic focus has been the rights of the Backward Classes, Adivasis, Dalits and other oppressed communities. He has tried to bring the discourse on OBC-Dalit issues from the margins of Hindi literature to the mainstream. He is credited with the misinterpretation of many Hindu legends in the name of Bahujan angle. He has also justified it by claiming it as the Bahujan cultural movement by glorified it by presenting it as "lies" fed to the media regarding the Mahishasur Martyrdom Day celebrations organized by JNU students. He tried to show that the RSS discredit this movement by attributing it to the organizations of the Far Left and terming it anti-national. [6] [7] [8]

He also worked as one of the two editors of socio- political monthly Jan Vikalp published from Patna. since January 2007 to March 2008. He was Senior Correspondent in Patna Bureau of ‘Prabhat Khabar’ March 2008 to January 2010. He joined Forward Press as Managing Editor from May 2011– to November 2013 and appointed its Consulting Editor from November 2013. Pramod Ranjan completed seven years with Forward Press. Now it is currently published under the supervision of Mr. Ranjan. [9] [10]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jayaprakash Narayan</span> Indian independence activist

Jayaprakash Narayan, who is popularly referred to as JP or Lok Nayak, was an Indian independence activist, theorist, socialist and political leader. He is remembered for leading the mid-1970s opposition against Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and called for her overthrow in a "total revolution". His biography Jayaprakash was written by his nationalist friend and the writer of Hindi literature Rambriksh Benipuri. In 1999, Narayan was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in recognition of his social service. His other awards include the Magsaysay award for public service in 1965.

The Republican Party of India is a political party in India. It had its roots in the Scheduled Castes Federation led by B. R. Ambedkar. The 'Training School for Entrance to Politics' was established by Ambedkar in 1956 which was to serve as an entry point to the Republican Party of India (RPI). The first batch of the school consisted of 15 students. Its first batch turned out to be last batch as the school was closed after Ambedkar's death in 1956.

All India Students' Association (AISA) is a left wing student organisation in India. It describes itself as "the voice of the radical students' movement" and is affiliated to the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation. The association was previously affiliated to the IPF. The association was founded in Allahabad on 9 August 1990 with the merger of several left wing students organisations across India. AISA have organisational presence in the states and union territories of Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Tripura, etc. Nilasis Bose is the National President of AISA and Prasenjeet Kumar is its National General Secretary.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ramswaroop Verma</span> Political Thinker of India

Ramswaroop Verma was an Indian humanist. He was the founder of Arjak Sangh, a humanist organisation. The organisation emphasises social equality and is strongly opposed to Brahminism. Verma denied the existence of god and soul. He was strongly opposed to the doctrine of Karma and Fatalism. Verma campaigned tirelessly against Brahminism and Untouchability. According to him, Brahminism is rooted in the doctrine of rebirth and it is not possible to eradicate it without attacking the doctrine of rebirth. Verma strongly asserts that Brahminism cannot be reformed, and it has to be negated totally.

Ashok Vajpeyi is an Indian Hindi-language poet, essayist, literary-cultural critic, apart from being a noted cultural and arts administrator, and a former civil servant. He was chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi India's National Academy of Arts, Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, 2008–2011. He has published over 23 books of poetry, criticism and art, and was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award given by Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, in 1994 for his poetry collection, Kahin Nahin Wahin. His notable poetry collections include, Shaher Ab Bhi Sambhavana Hai (1966), Tatpurush (1986), Bahuri Akela (1992), Ibarat Se Giri Matrayen, Ummeed ka Doosra Naam (2004) and Vivaksha (2006), besides this he has also published works on literary and art criticism: Filhal, Kuchh Poorvagrah, Samay se Bahar, Kavita ka Galp and Sidhiyan Shuru ho Gayi Hain. He is generally seen as part of the old Delhi-centric literary-cultural establishment consisting of bureaucrat-poets and academicians like Sitakanta Mahapatra, Keki Daruwalla, J.P.Das, Gopi Chand Narang, Indra Nath Choudhari and K.Satchidanandan.

Chetram Jatav was an Indian revolutionary distinguished himself as a valiant freedom fighter by actively engaging in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. His pivotal role in the mutiny unfolded on 26 May 1857 in the Soro region of Eta district, which is presently situated in Uttar Pradesh, formerly known as the North-Western Provinces in British India. Apoorvanand is professor at the Hindi Department, Faculty of Arts, University of Delhi. He is also a regular columnist and political commentator. Dayachand Mayna was a poet of Haryanvi language. He is one of the important poets and folklore artists Haryana had ever produced. He was born on 10 March 1915, in a Valmiki caste family in Mayna village of Rohtak district of Haryana .He produced best of the Haryanvi Saang and Raagni.He wrote a very famous play (Kissa) on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He wrote 21 Kissas(play in Haryanvi) and more than 150 Raagniyaan(poem in Haryanvi). He died on 20 January 1993.

Namvar Singh was an Indian literary critic, linguist, academician and theoretician. He received his doctorate degree from Banaras Hindu University where he also taught for some time. He served as a professor of Hindi literature in several other universities. He was the founder and first chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru University's Centre of Indian Languages and continued to remain as a professor emeritus after his retirement in 1992.

Baudhacharya Shanti Swaroop Baudh was an Indian writer, Buddhist scholar, painter, publisher and Pali language expert. He was an Ambedkarite-Buddhist activist. He was born in 1949 at Old Delhi in a Jatav Dalit family. In 1975, he set up Samyak Prakashan, a publishing house dedicated to Ambedkarite, Navayana Buddhist, Pali literature and Dalit literature. Samyak Prakashan has published over 2000 books many of which have been translated into some 14 different languages including English, Sinhalese, Nepalese, Burmese. He was a board of editors member of Dhamma Darpan and Dalit Dastak magazines. He was Delhi state president of Buddhist Society of India.

Dr. Saurabh Suman is an Indian Agri researcher who was awarded the Nari Shakti Puraskar. She leads an NGO that empowers women in Bihar. Suiman has also been involved in organising celebrations of Mahishasur martyrdom day.
