Prof. Prem Kumar Bhatia FNASc, FRAS, MIAU, [1] FIMA (UK) was an Indian mathematician and astrophysicist. He worked as Emeritus Professor in Jai Narain Vyas University until his death in his permanent residence at Jodhpur.[ citation needed ]

Early life

Prof Bhatia was born in middle class Punjabi Khatri family Bhatia caste (on 7 September 1937)[ citation needed ] in Kanpur City. He did his early study in Kanpur, thereafter came to Delhi where he did his B.Sc Gold medal and M.Sc Gold medal. Bhatia did his PhD from Jai Narain Vyas University in 1964 and did his post-doctoral work at Monash University, [2] University of Liège, [3] University of Lagos [4] then completed his DSc from Jai Narain Vyas University in 1974.

Career

He also worked as associate professor in 1974 in Jai Narain Vyas University. In 1983 he was Professor, Head of department of Mathematics and Statistics and also Dean of Science faculty of Jai Narain Vyas University. Prof Bhatia retired in 2002, and from there on he worked as Emeritus Professor in M.B.M. Engineering College till his last breath. [5]

Prof Bhatia was conferred upon with Distinguished Service Award from Vigyan Parishad of India [6]

He served on various committees in various capacities including as the vice president of the International Astronomical Union during 1988–1994. He was also a Foreign Fellow of both the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. He was an Associate of the Royal Astronomical Society and a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.

Vinod Johri was an Indian astrophysicist. He was an eminent cosmologist, a retired professor of astrophysics at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and an emeritus professor at Lucknow University since 1995. Johri had over 75 research publications and articles published in pioneering journals. His major contributions in cosmological research included 'power law inflation, genesis of quintessence fields of dark energy and phantom cosmologies'. He was the co-author of the first model of power law inflation in Brans–Dicke theory along with C. Mathiazhagan. He was honored by Uttar Pradesh Government by Research Award of the Council of Science & Technology (CSIR).

Damodar Sharma is an engineer, educator, founder Vice-Chancellor of the Rajasthan Technical University and winner of the Silver Elephant award of the Bharat Scouts and Guides. Palliakaranai Thirumalai Narasimhan (1928–2013), popularly known as PTN or Jim, was an Indian theoretical chemist, one of the pioneers of computational chemistry in India and a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He was known for his studies on quantum-mechanical interpretation of magnetic resonance data and his contributions in developing IIT Kanpur into a Centre of Excellence in academic research in the basic sciences. He was an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India.
