Early life

Stone was born in Dallas, Texas and attended Parish Episcopal School. In Stone's high school career he completed 902 passes of his 1,376 pass attempts for 13,178 yards, and 148 touchdowns, to 21 interceptions. Stone also rushed for 2,172 yards and 34 touchdowns. [1] Coming out of high school, Stone was rated a four-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals.com, ranking at 121st on the ESPN 300. [2] [3] Stone would decide to commit to play college football for SMU. [4] [5] Stone also received offers from schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Arizona, and Arizona State. [2] [3]

College career

In Stone's first season in 2021, he completed three out of his seven passing attempts for 24 yards. [6] Stone was selected to the American's all-academic team for the 2021–22 school year. [7]

In week eight of the 2022 season, Stone made his first career start, as he went 11 for 17 passing for 219 yards and a touchdown, as he helped the Mustangs beat Tulsa. [8] Stone finished the 2022 season completing 28 of his 48 passes for 388 yards and two touchdowns to one interception; Stone also rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns. [9]

In week one of the 2023 season, Stone went 23 for 37 on his passing attempts for 248 yards and three touchdowns, as he helped SMU start off the season with a win, beating Louisiana Tech 38–14. [10] [11] In week three, Stone had a breakout game completing 15 of his 20 pass attempts for 300 yards and five touchdowns to one interception, while also adding a touchdown on the ground, as SMU defeated Prairie View A&M 69–0. [12] [13] In week ten, Stone suffered a concussion during the game against Rice. [14] After starting every game for the 2023 season, Stone suffered an ankle injury during SMU's 59–14 victory over Navy, leaving him unable to participate in the December 4 AAC Championship Game against Tulane. [15]

The 1935 SMU vs. TCU football game was a regular season college football game between the SMU Mustangs and the TCU Horned Frogs on November 30, 1935, at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. The two teams were undefeated and untied heading into the game. Both Southern Methodist University and Texas Christian University were members of the Southwest Conference, and a win in this game was necessary for either team to secure the conference championship. The game also held national championship implications, as the winner was expected to receive an invitation to compete in the Rose Bowl. As a result, the game is commonly considered the "Game of the Century", a moniker which noted sportswriter Grantland Rice, among others, used to describe the game. The buildup attracted a great deal of national attention, and it was the first football game in Texas to be broadcast nationwide on radio.

The 2022 Houston vs. SMU football game was a regular-season college football game between the Houston Cougars and the SMU Mustangs, played on November 5, 2022 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in University Park, Texas. The game holds the record for the most combined points scored in an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) regulation game with 140 total points, breaking the previous record by three points.

The 2023 American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game was a college football game played on December 2, 2023, at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans. It was the ninth American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game and determined the champion of the American Athletic Conference for the 2023 season. The game started at 4:00 p.m. EST and aired on ABC. The game featured the Tulane Green Wave and the SMU Mustangs. SMU defeated Tulane 26–14 for the program's first conference championship since it won a share of the Southwest Conference title in 1984.
